During this Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, the weather is mild, sometimes even chilly. These are rare days when the South, which enjoys year-round warm sunshine, experiences a touch of coolness from the North. - Photo: QUANG DINH
The recent strong cold front in Northern Vietnam, upon spreading southward, continues to affect the weather in Ho Chi Minh City and Southern Vietnam during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake).
In recent days, the early mornings have been cool with a refreshing breeze. This feeling was even more pronounced yesterday and today, the second day of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake) , due to the reduced traffic and decreased heat dissipation into the atmosphere.
This morning, Ho Chi Minh City is cold, with the lowest temperature recorded on iPhone weather apps being 20 degrees Celsius. Some other areas in Southern Vietnam are below 19 degrees Celsius.
Some people going out early in the spring wore extra warm clothes and scarves. The ideal weather during the Lunar New Year made people feel delighted.
Truong Hoang Phuong, a ride-hailing driver, said the weather this year is very unusual.
Every year during the Lunar New Year holidays, it's very sunny, sometimes even hot, but for some reason this year, starting from the 28th of the lunar month, it's been cold in the mornings and cool all day.
It's already the second day of the Lunar New Year, but the weather is still cold. That makes driving less tiring, and I get to see people enjoying themselves during the holiday.
On the morning of the second day of Tet (Lunar New Year), the streets of Ho Chi Minh City were windy and deserted, making everyone feel even colder.
However, from today onwards, temperatures in Southern Vietnam will gradually rise due to the weakening of the cold air mass. At the same time, the subtropical high-pressure system (which causes hot weather and clear skies) will become increasingly active.
