Nwaneri could be the first star to leave Arsenal this summer. |
Arsenal officially clinched the title after Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth in matchday 37 on May 20th. This marks the first time since the 2003/04 season that the North London club has been at the top of the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta and his team celebrated wildly at the London Colney training ground before the trophy presentation in their final match against Crystal Palace. However, amidst this joyous atmosphere, Ethan Nwaneri's future unexpectedly became a hot topic.
According to Sky Germany , the young English talent is open to the possibility of leaving Emirates in the summer transfer window. Nwaneri was once considered a gem at Arsenal, breaking the record for the youngest player to appear in the Premier League.
Last season, he was also nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Arsenal quickly secured the young star with a long-term contract until 2030.
However, Nwaneri's playing opportunities under Arteta have remained quite limited. The 19-year-old midfielder hasn't started a single Premier League game this season and has only appeared six times from the bench. Despite this, he is still eligible to receive a winner's medal with Arsenal.
Last January, Nwaneri was loaned to Marseille to gain experience. In Ligue 1, he scored two goals in 11 matches and helped the French team finish in the top 5.
Borussia Dortmund has emerged as the most likely destination. The German club pursued Nwaneri before he extended his contract with Arsenal and still maintains a strong interest.
Sources from Germany indicate that the young player would not object to a move to the Bundesliga, where Dortmund is renowned for developing young talents into big stars.
However, the deal is not expected to happen easily as Arsenal are demanding a high transfer fee and are also unwilling to let Nwaneri leave on loan again.
