A landslide caused a makeshift house to collapse into the river.

(CTO) - On June 2nd, the leaders of Nhon My commune People's Committee (Can Tho City) announced that a new landslide had occurred in An Phu Dong hamlet.

On the morning of the same day, in An Phu Dong hamlet (at the confluence of three rivers, bordering Phu Tay, Phung An, and An Phu Dong hamlets), near the ferry crossing, a 50-meter-long landslide occurred, extending approximately 7 meters inland. The landslide caused a temporary house belonging to one household to completely collapse into the river and also destroyed a corrugated iron roof of another household's house, with estimated damages of 30 million VND.

The landslide at An Phu Dong hamlet caused complete collapse.   Down by the river was a temporary house belonging to a local family.

The landslide also directly affected the homes of four households near the area. Currently, there is still a crack more than 10 meters long and extending 3 meters inland at the landslide site.

Mr. Cao Minh Thom, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhon My commune, said that immediately after the landslide occurred, the People's Committee mobilized forces to put up warning signs, assist affected people in moving valuable assets to safe locations; and build a temporary road for people to travel on, avoiding the landslide area. The People's Committee advised people living in riverside areas and at locations prone to landslides to raise their awareness of landslide prevention and control; and to avoid areas warned of frequent landslides.
