On November 12th, Mr. Nguyen Tri Ha, Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Ha Tinh province, stated that the unit is awaiting reports from localities regarding the situation of orange fruit drop following the recent floods to accurately assess the current situation of orange fruit drop in the area and the extent of the damage.
According to Mr. Ha, the initial information the unit received was that after the floods, some areas of orange orchards belonging to people in Huong Khe and Vu Quang districts were flooded, causing a significant amount of oranges to fall off the trees.
Furthermore, because oranges are sweet when ripe, they attract harmful insects, including forest moths and fruit flies.
"We have also advised orange growers to drain floodwaters after the rains and floods, control insects by covering the entire tree with nets, and harvest ripe fruit for sale to minimize losses," Mr. Ha shared.
According to the Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection in Ha Tinh province, every year at this time of the rainy season, oranges experience fruit drop, but this year the phenomenon may be more severe.
Currently, Ha Tinh province has approximately 7,700 hectares of orange orchards. The localities with the largest orange growing areas are Vu Quang, Huong Son, Huong Khe, and Can Loc.
