According to Mr. Abdulaziz bin Salman, the state oil company Aramco has discovered two unconventional oil fields, one Arab light oil field in the Eastern Province, two natural gas fields and two natural gas reservoirs in the Rub' al Khali desert area.
Earlier, on June 30, Reuters (UK) reported that Saudi Arabia's state oil company Aramco had signed contracts worth more than $25 billion to expand the Jafurah gas field. After expansion, the field could produce 56 million cubic meters of standard gas per day by 2030.
The Middle Eastern country is working to develop unconventional gas reserves, which require advanced extraction methods like those used in the shale oil industry.
Jafurah is the country's largest unconventional gas field and potentially the largest shale oil and gas development outside the US, with reserves of 6,484 billion cubic metres and 75 billion barrels of condensate.
“The generation of 56 million standard cubic metres of gas per day by 2030 will strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position as one of the world’s leading gas producers,” said Aramco CEO Amin Nasser.
