According to the Ministry of Public Security , in implementing the National Assembly's resolution on piloting the auction of vehicle license plates , from September 15, 2023 to the end of February 2024, the agency organized online auctions of 15,185 car license plates, of which 14,062 license plates were successfully auctioned and paid for by customers, totaling nearly 1,400 billion VND.
The Ministry of Public Security stated that the auctioning of car license plates meets the needs of the people, creates fairness among those in need, and effectively utilizes public assets, increasing revenue for the State budget. In particular, the auctioning of license plates has received significant public attention and support.
| Proposals have been made to auction off motorcycle license plates, starting at 5 million VND. |
However, the Ministry of Public Security believes that the current auctioning of license plates is still limited to private cars and has not been widely applied, thus failing to fully meet the aspirations of people who want to own license plates according to their preferences.
Accordingly, the starting price for a motorcycle or scooter license plate offered at auction must not be less than 5 million VND; the bidding increment is 10% of the starting price.
| The bill would also add the right of the person who wins the license plate auction to register the winning license plate at the police agency that manages the vehicle. |
With their large quantity and affordable starting prices, attractive motorcycle license plates are expected to attract significant attention from both the public and collectors.
"The bill will also add the right of the person who wins the auction for motorcycle license plates to register the winning license plate at the police agency that manages the auctioned license plate or at the residence of the individual, or the headquarters of the winning organization, to suit the practical situation…" - the Ministry of Public Security proposed.
