On June 3rd, information from Ngoc Lac Regional General Hospital (Thanh Hoa) indicated that on May 29th, the hospital received 5 patients suspected of poisoning from eating stink bugs. After examination, the hospital transferred 3 seriously ill patients, P.D.T., HVN, and HTQ, to Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital for treatment.

At Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, three patients suspected of food poisoning after eating stink bugs were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit 1 - Toxicology Department in a state of severe fatigue, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea; some cases also experienced shortness of breath and chest pain.

Through examination and in-depth testing, doctors noted many typical signs of insect toxin poisoning such as neurological dysfunction, liver damage, digestive disorders, and especially severe muscle damage, acute rhabdomyolysis with the risk of progressing to multiple organ failure.

Thanks to intensive resuscitation and timely treatment, all three patients have overcome the critical stage. Currently, their hemodynamics are stable, neurological symptoms, digestive symptoms, and muscle damage have all improved significantly, and their health continues to recover well.

Many people suffered food poisoning from eating stink bugs.

As reported by Tri Thuc va Cuoc Song newspaper , on the afternoon of May 27th, a group of people in Sa Lang village, Phu Xuan commune (Thanh Hoa province) caught about 0.3 kg of stink bugs on wild eggplant plants along the Ma River and brought them home to prepare as a dish.

That evening, six people, including Mr. PBT (60 years old), Mr. H.D.T. (42 years old), Mr. HVN (43 years old), Mr. P.D.T. (43 years old), Ms. HTQ (36 years old), and Ms. CTL (37 years old), joined the meal. Besides the stink bugs, the meal also included stir-fried pork, stream fish soup with cherry tomatoes, homegrown pumpkin soup, and wine.

By the morning of May 28th, Mr. PBT began experiencing symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, headache, neck and shoulder pain, and back pain. At noon that same day, his relatives took him to Quan Hoa General Hospital for emergency treatment.

From morning to afternoon on May 29th, those who ate the stink bugs together, including Mr. H.D.T., Mr. HVN, Mr. P.D.T., Ms. HTQ, and Ms. CTL, all experienced similar symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, headache, neck and shoulder pain, and back pain as Mr. PBT, so they were also taken by their relatives to Quan Hoa General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Subsequently, all patients suspected of food poisoning from eating stink bugs were transferred to Ngoc Lac General Hospital and Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital for further treatment and monitoring.
