Junk SIMs, reusable SIMs: "Old debts" haunt new users.

(GLO) - The problem of junk SIMs, SIMs not registered in the owner's name, and reused SIMs continues to cause many problems for mobile users.

Many people, even those who legally purchase new SIM cards, still face persistent annoyances such as debt collection calls, harassing text messages, or the inability to register accounts because the phone number has previously belonged to someone else.

According to feedback from many users, after purchasing new SIM cards at official transaction points, they continuously receive debt collection calls, advertisements, or notifications from services they have never registered for.

The reason is that after the subscriber numbers are revoked, the network operators return them to the number pool for reuse.

However, many of the previous owner's bank accounts, social media accounts, or e-wallets are still linked to this phone number, causing the new user to inadvertently bear the burden of the problems that arose previously.

Besides being inconvenient, unregistered SIM cards also pose a risk to information security and fraud. Criminals often exploit these SIM cards to impersonate government agencies, banks, or financial institutions in order to steal assets. The use of SIM cards registered with fake information also makes it difficult for authorities to trace and prosecute violations.

In response to this situation, telecommunications companies have stated that they have coordinated with regulatory agencies to implement various control measures such as blocking spam calls, receiving feedback from the public, and strengthening subscriber information verification.

However, completely resolving this issue remains challenging, especially for harassing calls that are personal in nature or arise from previous civil transactions.

Experts suggest that, in addition to efforts from regulatory agencies and telecommunications companies, people also need to proactively protect themselves by registering SIM cards under their own names, avoiding pre-activated SIM cards, regularly checking subscriber information, and promptly reporting spam calls and fraudulent activities.
