As a region rich in historical sites and scenic spots, Dong Trieu was bustling with festivals and spring activities at the beginning of the new year, attracting a large number of local people and tourists from other provinces.
The city currently has 132 historical sites (1 special national monument; 7 national monuments; 22 provincial-level monuments; and 102 classified and managed monuments), and over 40 traditional festivals are held annually. To attract tourists, the city focuses on mobilizing resources to invest in tourism development, especially during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake. Simultaneously, it directs units and localities to beautify the city, improve environmental sanitation, and decorate with festive flags and flowers to welcome the new year. Tourism businesses and establishments operating in the tourism sector in the area are actively renovating and investing in upgrading infrastructure and services to serve tourists. Ngoa Van - Yen Tu Cultural Tourism Joint Stock Company has invested in building accommodation and food services in the cable car station area to serve tourists visiting Ngoa Van Pagoda; entertainment venues in the city have also been renovated to welcome visitors.
With its inherent historical and cultural values, the Tran Dynasty historical site has become a popular tourist attraction, contributing to the development of spiritual tourism in the city. To proactively welcome visitors during the spring festival, the Management Board of the Tran Dynasty historical site has renovated and restored the relics; cleaned the environment; and set up check-in areas at the historical sites to serve the public and tourists visiting the area. They have also deployed staff to guide and explain the site to visitors.
The Ngoa Van Spring Festival is an event with profound humanistic values, focusing on ancestral roots with many unique cultural and artistic activities. In 2025, the ceremonial part included rituals praying for national peace and prosperity, the ringing of drums and bells to officially open the festival; and an incense offering ceremony at Ngoa Van Pagoda, a sacred site of Truc Lam Buddhism, where Emperor Tran Nhan Tong practiced and attained Buddhahood. Following the ceremony, the festival part featured many cultural and artistic activities, sports, unique folk games; and an area showcasing and selling typical OCOP products from 19 communes and wards of the city…
The Thai Mieu Festival is one of the most important festivals in the city, deeply rooted in the cultural identity and rituals of the Tran Dynasty. The water procession, in particular, signifies gratitude to the ancestors of the Tran Dynasty, a dynasty that originated from fishing and was closely associated with the rivers and waterways. The festival also features traditional martial arts performances and folk games, attracting a large number of visitors. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Lam, Deputy Head of the City's Department of Culture and Information, stated: To further enhance the value of the Tran Dynasty's historical complex in the city, the city has developed a project to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Tran Dynasty in Dong Trieu. This project focuses on mobilizing investment in the construction of tangible architecture, restoring intangible cultural elements, and strengthening the dissemination and promotion of the heritage's value to the public.
In particular, during the Lunar New Year 2025, cultural and sports activities and folk games attracted a large number of locals and tourists: The New Year's Eve art program and televised broadcast attracted over 15,000 people; the Spring Newspaper Fair at the City's Cultural and Sports Center attracted over 500 people; the Ethnic Culture Festival in Trang Luong commune attracted over 500 people... In the first two months of 2025, Dong Trieu welcomed 393,639 tourists, an increase of 47,645 compared to the same period in 2024.
