The famous lacquerware of Tuong Binh Hiep

The lacquerware craft of Tuong Binh Hiep has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage. Located in Tuong Binh Hiep ward (Thu Dau Mot city), this traditional craft village has been passed down and preserved by generations of people in Binh Duong for over 200 years. For a long time, Tuong Binh Hiep lacquerware products have been famous throughout the country for their quality, exquisite craftsmanship, and unique, gentle East Asian beauty.

We had the opportunity to visit the Dinh Hoa lacquerware workshop, located in the Tuong Binh Hiep craft village, which was established nearly 50 years ago. The workshop, owned by artisan Truong Quan Tinh, currently employs around 20 artisans who still possess nearly lost decorative techniques such as lacquer carving and lacquer painting. Due to the complexity of the process, the long production cycle, and the high cost of materials, the lacquer paintings and lacquer carvings from this workshop are considered precious specialties of Binh Duong province.

Dinh Hoa lacquerware workshop is located at 81 Ho Van Cong Street, Tuong Binh Hiep Ward, Thu Dau Mot City.

Currently, there are about 20 workers at the Dinh Hoa facility, including elderly artisans who possess unique, almost lost, techniques such as wood carving and lacquer painting.

With meticulous attention to detail and skillful hands, the artisans meticulously follow the complex lacquerware production process to create magnificent works of art.

Currently, despite many changes and transformations in the lacquerware industry, Dinh Hoa lacquerware still maintains its production process with 12-15 layers of lacquer and traditional Vietnamese lacquer paintings. In the photo: An artisan meticulously creates a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh.
