Son Tung has not lost himself.
Four days after its release, Sơn Tùng M-TP's music video "Come My Way" has surpassed 20 million views on YouTube, maintaining its strong appeal across global social media platforms.
However, the music video also faced controversy for incorporating many cultural symbols. Amidst the hype surrounding "Come My Way" and the subsequent uproar, Son Tung officially spoke out on Hypebeast – an influential global media and business brand in the fields of culture and fashion .

According to Son Tung M-TP, the collaboration with rapper Tyga didn't stem from a spontaneous invitation. The singer has known Tyga for a long time and had planned to work with him many times before, but hadn't been able to. "We've known each other for a long time, and I can't even remember how many times I wanted to collaborate with him. Luckily, everything came true this year, and it feels like fate," Son Tung shared.
The songmaking process was quite simple. Son Tung composed the song, immediately thought of Tyga, and sent the music to the rapper. However, the foundation for this collaboration had been built many years prior.
What makes "Come My Way" even more special is Tyga's Vietnamese heritage. According to the artist, the song is not just a musical product, but also an opportunity for both of them to connect with their roots. This similarity in background created a natural harmony in the creative process.

Regarding music, Son Tung stated that his artistic identity is deeply influenced by traditional Vietnamese folk music. These elements directly impact his singing style, from pronunciation and melody to the way he conveys emotions. "My singing style is heavily influenced by folk music. That's one of the factors that sets me apart from other artists," he said.
The male singer believes that preserving his identity is not simply a creative choice, but also a professional principle that has helped him avoid losing himself throughout his more than 13 years in the industry. The audience's loyalty stems from a sense of authenticity, rather than marketing strategies or algorithms.
The long game
Another noteworthy detail that appears in the final scene of the music video is the image of Son Tung drawing a white caterpillar. The singer confirmed that this detail is symbolic.
When asked what the next 12 months would be like—more music, more collaborations, or new markets—Son Tung M-TP replied: "Honestly, I have been working hard to bring my music to a global platform for the past three years, and of course I have prepared a lot because when you participate in a long-term game, talent alone is never enough. It requires much more than that."

Honestly, I don't know where I'll be in the next 12 months. But I'm the kind of person who, once I decide to do something, I'll see it through and give it my all. I don't want this dream to remain just a question in my mind; I want to find the answer."
Responding to Hypebeast, the male singer referred to the after-credit scene of "Come My Way ," where he cradles a white caterpillar. According to Son Tung, it's not just a caterpillar, but also symbolizes the gateway to the next chapter he has prepared for his audience.
After three years of gradually expanding into the international market, more than a decade of building his career, and a collaboration that signifies a return to his roots, Son Tung considers this musical product as the beginning of a new journey in his career.
