Sony wins big again.

Former Sony president Shuhei Yoshida believes that the combat system is Stellar Blade's main draw for players, however, the gaming community has a different opinion.

Stellar Blade, the game that caused a sensation from developer Shift Up, has just had an impressive launch on the PC platform, marking the studio's rise from a familiar name in the mobile gaming world to a major player in the PC/Console market.

In just the first three days of its PC release, Stellar Blade sold over 1 million copies, bringing the game's total global sales to 3 million copies across both PlayStation 5 and PC. This immediately made Stellar Blade Sony PlayStation's best-selling single-player game on Steam.

Analyst Daniel Ahmad believes that much of Stellar Blade's success on PC likely stems from Chinese gamers. He points out that the PC version of the game features Chinese voice acting – a feature absent on the PS5 at launch. Furthermore, thanks to regional pricing, the game costs only around $38 in China, significantly lower than the $60 price tag in the US market.

Former Sony Interactive Entertainment president Shuhei Yoshida believes the combat system is the key element that makes Stellar Blade so captivating. According to him, the "Soulslike" mechanics are the core reason for the game's resounding success. Soulslike games are a genre of action games with high difficulty, characterized by combat requiring precision and the freedom to explore vast worlds .

Specifically, in an interview with Japan's GameWatch , Yoshida emphasized that while the game's technical aspects, graphics, and character design are excellent, the combat element is what makes it most appealing.

Yoshida experienced the Stellar Blade demo while the game was still in development. His particular fondness for the combat system prompted him to propose an exclusive publishing deal with Sony PlayStation to Shift Up.

This assessment is entirely justified, given Stellar Blade's stylish combat system and the game's impressive boss battles. However, it seems Yoshida is overlooking another "obvious problem."

The gaming community believes Stellar Blade gained popularity thanks to the design of its main character, "Eve," in daring outfits. Developer Shift Up also didn't hesitate to exploit this element, and it was this sexiness that helped Stellar Blade attract a large amount of attention. Some argue that without this feature, the game might not have reached its current level of popularity.

Within just 72 hours of Stellar Blade's demo being released, the game modding platform Nexus Mods was quickly flooded with "sexy" mods of Eve. To date, out of a total of 338 mods on the site, 133 are marked as "for adults."

Eve isn't the first character created by developer Shift Up to attract widespread attention from the gaming community. Previously, their game Goddess of Victory: Nikke also stood out with its female characters in revealing outfits.
