Stellar Blade, the "stormy" game by developer Shift Up, has just had an impressive debut on the PC platform, marking the studio's rise from a familiar name in the mobile gaming industry to a "giant" in the PC/Console market.
In just the first three days of its PC release, Stellar Blade sold over 1 million copies, bringing the game's total global sales to 3 million across both PlayStation 5 and PC. As a result, Stellar Blade immediately became Sony PlayStation's best-selling single-player game on Steam.
Analyst Daniel Ahmad believes that much of Stellar Blade’s PC success can be attributed to Chinese gamers. He points out that the PC version of the game features Chinese voice acting, something that was not available on the PS5 version at launch. Furthermore, thanks to the region-based pricing policy, the game costs only about $38 in China, significantly lower than the $60 in the US market.
Former Sony Interactive Entertainment president Shuhei Yoshida believes that the combat system is the key factor that makes Stellar Blade "fascinate" players. According to him, the "Soulslike" mechanism is the core reason for the game's resounding success. Soulslike is a genre of action games with high difficulty, characterized by precise combat gameplay and the ability to freely explore a large world .
Specifically, in an interview with Japan's GameWatch , Mr. Yoshida emphasized that although the game's technical aspects, graphics, and character design are all excellent, the combat element is what creates the game's strongest appeal.
Yoshida played a demo of Stellar Blade while it was still in development, and his love for the combat system prompted him to offer Shift Up an exclusive publishing deal with Sony PlayStation.

This is certainly true, as Stellar Blade's combat system is quite stylish and the game has many impressive boss battles. However, it seems that Mr. Yoshida is ignoring another "obvious problem".
The gaming community believes that Stellar Blade is popular thanks to the design of the main character “Eve” in bold outfits. Developer Shift Up also did not hesitate to exploit this element, and it is the sexiness that helped Stellar Blade attract a lot of attention. Some people think that without this feature, the popularity of the game might not have reached its current level.
Within 72 hours of the Stellar Blade demo being released, modding platform Nexus Mods was quickly flooded with Eve's "sexy" mods. As of now, of the 338 mods on the site, 133 are marked as "adult."
Eve is not the first character created by developer Shift Up to attract the attention of the gaming community. Previously, the company's game Goddess of Victory: Nikke also stood out with female characters wearing sexy costumes.
