Spotify is testing a feature that lets users listen to longer articles, allowing them to listen to in-depth articles from various magazines and major publications while doing housework, shopping, or commuting.

According to an announcement on May 26th, the streaming platform has added over 650 full-length articles read aloud, now available in English. The new content appears alongside Spotify's familiar offerings such as music , podcasts, and audiobooks.

Spotify collaborates with numerous publications such as Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Vogue, Variety, Billboard, Vibe, GQ, WIRED, Vanity Fair, and Pitchfork to provide curated articles. The audiobooks are produced by Spotify's in-house audiobook team.

Spotify Premium users can access these articles in the same category as the existing audiobooks. Listening time to the articles counts towards the 15 hours of audiobooks and full-length content that Premium subscribers receive each month. Based on the content offered, the individual Spotify Premium plan currently costs $13 per month.

For free users, Spotify allows them to purchase individual articles read aloud for $2 each. Spotify says this new format can help listeners try shorter, more accessible content before moving on to longer formats like audiobooks.

This move comes as Spotify continues to expand beyond music. The company says the number of hours spent listening to audiobooks on its platform has increased by 60% between 2024 and 2025, while nearly half of audiobook listeners have started using this type of content in the past 12 months.

In addition to the feature of listening to longer articles, Spotify is also planning to partner with Universal Music Group to allow users to remix songs using AI for an additional fee. The platform recently added artist verification badges, support for independent bookstores, and several new benefits for Premium subscribers, including early access to concert tickets.
