When people unanimously agree to donate land

From the center of Tuyen Quang city, follow the paved road towards the revolutionary war zone for about 45 km to reach the center of Minh Thanh commune. According to Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Chinh, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Minh Thanh commune, the commune has 1,491 households with 6,267 inhabitants, mostly ethnic minorities. Previously, due to being a purely agricultural commune, lacking convenient transportation and being far from the central economic zone, the lives of the people were still difficult, and the poverty rate remained high, accounting for nearly 50%.

In 2024, the completion of Highways 07 and 18 extended the joy of the people, contributing to changing the face of the commune's transportation infrastructure. The formation of these roads has truly unlocked a bottleneck in the local new rural development journey, significantly impacting the mindset and production habits of the people here. One of the greatest successes is the spread of the movement to donate land for road construction, as both projects lacked funding for land acquisition and compensation.

To create a ripple effect, Minh Thanh launched the "cadres and Party members take the lead" movement. The Party Branch Secretary and Village Head, Chu Thi Vui, shared that the DH 07 road runs through the village. Previously, the road existed but had a narrow surface with many potholes... The desire for a beautiful road had been long-standing, so when they learned that the road was being built and widened, the people unanimously agreed. Almost every house along the road was affected.

However, people observed each other's progress, and wherever the construction progressed and land was needed, the residents retreated accordingly. Over 200 households were affected, 38,000 m2 of land was quickly handed over by residents, 14,000 m2 of fences were dismantled, and the total value of recovered assets exceeded 5 billion VND... these figures are proof of this movement.

Ms. Pham Thi Phien, from Cay village, said that although her family had just spent tens of millions of dong building a wall around their house, when the commune and village authorities encouraged them, the whole family agreed to demolish the wall and move it back a few meters to hand over the land to the construction unit... Ms. Phien smiled, saying, "Now that we see this wide road, even if the government takes a few more meters, we people won't regret it."

Change your mindset.

Over the years, the Minh Thanh Commune Party Committee has issued numerous resolutions focusing on economic development, building new rural areas, and preserving and promoting cultural identity and revolutionary historical relics. As a former revolutionary base area (ATK), Minh Thanh has received attention from the Central Government, the province, and the district in attracting and prioritizing resources for infrastructure development, training cadres, and applying science and technology to production. The people of Minh Thanh commune enjoy special preferential policies in healthcare, education , and many other fields.

For example, in Cay Village, one of the first traditional craft villages in Tuyen Quang province, the product has now been upgraded and has a definite market. Mr. Pham Van Minh, the head of the Cay Village Tea Cooperative, has been involved in the tea industry for nearly 50 years. From small, handcrafted tea roasting facilities, Mr. Minh boldly invested in a production line, partnered with surrounding households, and registered the Thanh Tra brand for the local traditional product. In 2021, Thanh Tra Tea was certified as a 3-star OCOP product.

Many families in Ca village took the lead in donating land to widen the road.

Mr. Minh couldn't hide his joy, sharing that tea growers here are increasingly fond of their product. Proof of this is the continuous expansion of newly planted tea areas, no longer relying on government investment or support. The selling price of each kilogram of dried tea has also increased from a few tens of thousands of dong/kg to 300,000 dong/kg.

Originally a purely agricultural commune, the people were only familiar with rice and corn cultivation, but the income generated was negligible. The commune's Party Committee and government have encouraged people of working age to find employment in factories and businesses; at the same time, they have expanded the area under cultivation to include more efficient crops such as cucumbers, sugarcane, and chili peppers, replacing low-yielding rice and other cash crops. They have also replicated successful models to encourage people to learn and follow suit.

As one of the localities with over 170 hectares of tea plantations, Minh Thanh commune has effectively utilized its advantages, creating momentum for economic development. For many years, tea has become the main crop, helping many households in the commune escape poverty and become wealthy. Alongside this, the commune has also promoted forestry development. The commune has 2,093 hectares of forest, including 272 hectares of natural forest and 1,821 hectares of planted production forest, with nearly 800 hectares of timber planted according to FSC standards. Currently, the commune has 3 products that have achieved OCOP 3-star standard: Thanh Tra tea, Giang Hang herbal wine, and La Khai specialty rice.

The encouraging result is that the average per capita income in Minh Thanh at the beginning of 2024 was 42 million VND/person/year. Minh Thanh is continuing to strive to overcome difficulties, maximize its potential and advantages to create breakthroughs in building its revolutionary homeland into an increasingly prosperous, civilized, and livable place.
