All eyes are on Thong Nhat Stadium on the afternoon of June 27th, whereSHB Da Nang – the second-to-last team in the V. League 2024/25 – will face Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc – the runner-up in the First Division. Which team will secure the final spot in the V. League 2025/26 (the losing team will play in the First Division next season)?
Whether or not Da Nang avoids relegation is, of course, an extremely important issue. This season, we've seen the team from the Han River finish last in 19 different rounds, including a long streak of consecutive bottom-place matches (from after round 8 to after round 24). At one point, experts were convinced that direct relegation was practically guaranteed for Da Nang, even after coach Le Duc Tuan arrived and made some changes.

Despite the difficulties, the most important thing was that the Han River team persevered and didn't give up, accumulating valuable points to maintain their pursuit. The turning point in the relegation battle came with a 3-1 victory against Quy Nhon Binh Dinh in round 22, followed by a crucial win against Quang Nam in round 23 to close the points gap with Quy Nhon Binh Dinh, before moving ahead with a draw in round 24 against Hoang Anh Gia Lai .
The draw against Hong Linh Ha Tinh and the 2-1 victory against Song Lam Nghe An in the final round meant that Da Nang, although still in second-to-last place, had enough to regain control of their own destiny through a crucial play-off match against a representative from the First Division.
It's worth recalling that before defeating Quy Nhon Binh Dinh in the "relegation battle," which marked the beginning of their five-match unbeaten streak (3 wins, 2 draws), Da Nang had suffered a heavy 0-6 defeat against The Cong Viettel.
However, some experts later suggested that it was a match where the Han River team deliberately "conserved their energy" before pouring all their strength into the "do-or-die" confrontation and the final rounds.

SHB Da Nang's opponent is Binh Phuoc, one of the two First Division teams (along with Phu Dong Ninh Binh) that have received significant investment. Besides Cong Phuong, the team from the Southeast region also boasts many high-quality new players and demonstrates ambition to build a sustainable, professional club.
After failing to catch up with Phu Dong Ninh Binh, Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc focused on the race for a play-off spot against their main rival, PVF CAND (also a strong contender with significant investment and high stability). Everything was decided after the final round, when Binh Phuoc finished just one point ahead of PVF CAND, securing the runner-up position and a chance to play in the play-offs for a spot in the V.League next season.

According to the regulations, SHB Da Nang will not be allowed to use foreign players in this match (similar to matches between V.League and First Division teams in the National Cup). This is clearly a disadvantage, because although the quality of the foreign players of the Da Nang team is not high, this still forces coach Le Duc Tuan and the coaching staff to make appropriate calculations to field the optimal lineup, while Truong Tuoi will be able to use a familiar all-domestic lineup. In other words, this will be a match with extremely unpredictable developments and results.
Last year, Hong Linh Ha Tinh had to play in the play-offs, overcoming PVF CAND before soaring in the V.League this season. SHB Da Nang is undoubtedly hoping to replicate that success, in order to reinvent themselves for the 2025/26 season. Conversely, Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc is also extremely eager to make its first appearance in the V.League, alongside its "neighbor" Becamex Binh Duong. A match that promises to be highly anticipated and exciting!
