Expanding space, creating more development momentum

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the reorganization of administrative units comes from a strategic vision and has long-term significance for the country's development. One of the core goals is to expand development space and create new space for localities to make breakthroughs.

From the perspective of developing the key economic sector of tourism, the leader of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said that rearranging administrative boundaries is an inevitable trend, creating conditions for the development of inter-regional tours and innovation of tourism products. Localities need to take advantage of this opportunity to build appropriate promotion and brand positioning strategies, contributing to sustainable tourism development and enhancing the position of Vietnamese tourism on the world map.

In the Southeast, after the arrangement of administrative boundaries, Ho Chi Minh City has a natural area of over 6,772 km2, including 168 commune-level administrative units. The city is expected to develop into a leading megacity in the entire region, a center of comprehensive development with global competitiveness, sustainable development and preservation of cultural identity.

Regarding tourism economy, experts believe that the rearrangement of administrative units is considered a boost to expand space, creating new momentum for Ho Chi Minh City tourism to develop in a specialized, highly connected direction, affirming its position as one of the most vibrant and attractive destinations in the country.

Dr. Duong Duc Minh, Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Economic and Tourism Development Research, said that the tourism industry will have many advantages to develop in depth, with specialized products, strong identity, and reduced duplication. Ho Chi Minh City, as the core urban center of the Southeast region, should promote the development of tourism products associated with technology, with strong cultural industries, and at the same time promote cooperation to expand and develop tourism "experience belts", diversify products, create spillover, and stimulate and support development between localities.

Mr. Tran The Dung, representative of Vietluxtour Travel Company, also emphasized the need to closely connect new wards and communes to develop tourism products from local identity, exploiting existing values more deeply and effectively to enhance competitiveness.

Positioning tourism brand, breaking through on a new journey

In the Mekong Delta region, the following provinces and cities will have more favorable conditions for socio-economic development, including tourism. This is an opportunity to reposition the brand, enhance the value of experiences, and effectively exploit specific tourism resources.

According to Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Ha Van Sieu, the merger is a great opportunity for localities to transform and innovate their methods, thereby creating new momentum for the tourism industry. Localities need to review their potential and new advantages, build suitable inter-regional products, thereby promoting the strengths of each region," said Mr. Ha Van Sieu.

Dr. Phan Cong Khanh, Director of the Academy of Politics Region IV (Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics): The Mekong Delta has tourism resources that few other places have, such as rivers, fields and orchards. Exploiting this strength, eco-tourism and agricultural tourism have been invested in in recent times, creating many specialties of delta tourism. Along with that, floating markets, islets, flower and ornamental plant villages, cajuput forests, mangrove forests, cultural, historical and island tourist attractions... are also unique features of the Mekong Delta. In addition, unique cuisine with seafood, traditional cakes and specialties is a clear advantage. These factors will help regional tourism continue to affirm its position on the new development journey.

From the perspective of a tourism business, Mr. Vo Van Phong, Director of C2T Media and Tourism Company, shared: “Merger does not cause loss of identity but is an opportunity to promote identity on a larger scale.” Taking the example of Vinh Long province after the merger, Mr. Phong said that the business will continue to develop tourism products with a strong hometown imprint, associated with the ecosystem: coconut - culture - fruit trees - craft villages - community life. Tourists can experience the century-old coconut culture, explore the river in harmony with the culture of the Kinh, Khmer, Hoa people... creating an unforgettable impression on the journey to explore the Mekong Delta.
