Heavy rain in the North, Red River water rises

Heavy rains in the North show no signs of abating (many places have seen rainfall exceeding 70mm, with 71.4mm in Hanoi). Wet clouds from the East Sea are still moving inland.

From the night of July 1 to the morning of July 2, heavy rain occurred over a large area in the Northern and North Central regions. Rain gauge data from the Vrain system showed that many localities continued to receive rain of over 70mm, even nearly 100mm.

Rainfall is concentrated in the midland and mountainous areas of the North such as: Son La (97mm), Lai Chau (91.4mm), Thai Nguyen (88.8mm), Dien Bien (77mm), Thanh Hoa (76.4mm), Tuyen Quang (70mm).

In the capital Hanoi , Kim Anh station measured 71.4mm of rainfall. Some neighboring provinces in the delta also recorded heavy rain such as: Ninh Binh (92.4mm), Quang Ninh (96.4mm), Phu Tho (69.2mm), Bac Ninh (52.4mm).

Rain spread across the North and North Central regions, gradually decreasing from the plains to the Central Coast and almost negligible in the South. The southern provinces mostly had less than 5mm of rain or no rain at all.

According to satellite data from the Global Weather Forecast System (GFS - USA), after 8am today, July 2, the North will see a large amount of new humid clouds from the Gulf of Tonkin. Therefore, this morning, many places will continue to rain. People in urban areas of Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong... need to monitor the risks and avoid flooding.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that from July 3, the rainy and windy conditions in the North of our country will decrease and the weather will improve.

* Since the night of July 1, prolonged heavy rain in the Northwest region has caused the water level of the Red River upstream to rise again on the morning of July 2. According to field records, the river water level tends to continue to rise rapidly in the coming hours as the rainfall shows no signs of abating.

People living along the Red River should be especially vigilant and closely monitor weather developments. Authorities in Lao Cai province have asked people not to collect firewood, fish, cross the river or move near the water's edge when it is still raining, to avoid the risk of being swept away by flash floods or sudden floodwaters.

Authorities in communes and wards are deploying response plans and are closely monitoring the situation. Any new developments will be continuously updated on weather warning channels.
