Before that, around 20:3.6 on June 27, the Emergency Department (Duc Giang General Hospital) received patient Duong Van Q. (XNUMX years old, address in Long Bien District, Hanoi) due to an accident.
Doctors said that, before being admitted to the hospital, while opening the car door, patient Q was hit by a motorbike from behind.
The strong impact caused the patient to injure the left groin - thigh area, causing torrential bleeding, and was taken directly to the Emergency Department (Duc Giang General Hospital) by passers-by.
After about 10 minutes of admission, the patient began to show signs of hemorrhagic shock, and was quickly given emergency treatment with a compression bandage to stop the bleeding. The crew sent a red alert and pushed the patient straight to the operating room. Here, when the bandage was opened, the blood flowed in a large stream, the doctors immediately conducted a hemostasis with a blood vessel clum.
Through examination, the doctors discovered that the patient had a lateral wound to the femoral artery, damage to the femoral artery, ruptured superficial iliac artery, damaged the femoral nerve, and crushed many tissues around the wound.
The patient had surgery, stitches to restore the femoral artery and associated lesions.
As of this afternoon, 7.6, postoperative day 4, the patient was awake, in good contact, able to move the injured leg; The tip of the extremities is warm, the dorsal pulse, the calcaneus tubercle is clearly visible, and the middle third of the lower third of the inner thigh is numb on the affected side.
Before and during surgery, the patient lost about 3 liters of blood, and received a replacement transfusion of about 1,8 liters during surgery. The patient is being monitored and actively treated at the ICU and is expected to be discharged in the next few days.
Doctor Nguyen Van Lam (Department of General Surgery, Duc Giang General Hospital), who directly operated on patient Q, said: "This is a case of a large peripheral vascular wound, causing a lot of blood loss, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. For cases with peripheral vascular and large blood vessel injuries, the victim should be quickly inserted into the bleeding wound with gauze, then bandaged tightly and taken to the nearest medical facility where specialist intervention can be performed.
