Impact on people's lives
Recently, residents of the villages of Ka Rom, Hiep Kiet, and Suoi Vang have continuously complained about environmental pollution and traffic safety risks caused by the stone transportation activities of mining companies in Cong Hai commune. Ms. LTH, a resident of Hiep Kiet village, expressed her frustration: “Every day, dozens of trucks carrying stones from the construction site pass through the residential area to National Highway 1. Even though the road is watered daily, dust still flies everywhere, and no house along the route dares to open its doors during the day.” Meanwhile, Ms. HTT, a resident of Ka Rom village, worried: “If the trucks carrying stones continue like this, Provincial Road 706 will soon be completely damaged. Even more worrying is that many students use these roads. During school hours and dismissal times, the heavy traffic makes accidents very likely.”

According to our reporter's observations, on the roads from National Highway 1 to the quarries, especially the narrow section of Provincial Road 706 from National Highway 1 to the Ka Rom railway crossing, numerous trucks are constantly moving in and out in a continuous stream. Not only is there dust, but traffic congestion has become a constant worry for road users and many households living along the road.
Increase patrols and enforcement.
Currently, there are 10 active quarries in Cong Hai commune. Inspections have shown that the quarrying businesses are generally complying with their environmental protection commitments. However, prolonged hot weather has led to increased dust pollution. To address this issue, the People's Committee of Cong Hai commune has conducted numerous on-site inspections, worked with the businesses, and requested them to sign commitments to prevent problems such as environmental pollution, security breaches, and traffic congestion during mining and transportation. Accordingly, the businesses have committed to implementing measures such as: increasing the frequency of road watering to control dust (previously, businesses watered 4 to 6 times per day); and hiring cleaning units to collect spilled rocks on National Highway 1. For internal roads within the production area, each quarry is responsible for environmental sanitation. For shared roads and National Highway 1, businesses must develop plans for regular watering and cleaning under the supervision of the local authorities.

Mr. Chau Quoc Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cong Hai Commune, said: “The locality regularly monitors, supervises, and reminds businesses to strictly comply with commitments on environmental protection. In the coming time, the commune will strengthen inspections and handle any violations to contribute to ensuring environmental hygiene, security and order, and the lives of the people, serving the socio -economic development of the locality. In addition, the People's Committee of the commune will install a camera system to monitor the production, transportation, and environmental hygiene activities of businesses, thereby improving transparency and management efficiency. At the same time, we will study opening new roads leading to the quarries to reduce pressure on the existing Provincial Road 706, which has a high density of trucks carrying stone, affecting the environment and the lives of the people.”

It is known that Provincial Road 706 is under the jurisdiction of the Traffic Police. The People's Committee of Cong Hai Commune has requested the Road Traffic Police Team No. 15/1 of the Provincial Police Traffic Police Department to increase patrols and strictly handle cases of overloaded vehicles and vehicles spilling materials during transportation.
