Promoting Vietnam's image through Indian cinema

On the afternoon of July 14, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong received and worked with Mr. Rahul Bali, CEO of Innovations India Company (India), the main producer of the Vietnam-India cooperation film project called Love in Vietnam.

Innovations India is a reputed name in the production, distribution and post-production sector of the Bollywood film industry.

The Love in Vietnam project has a budget of 4 million USD, and will start filming in September 2024 in central and southern Vietnam. The project was announced at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, screened at the 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF 2025) and is expected to premiere in both Vietnam and India this summer. The film brings together actors from two film industries including Shantanu Maheshwari, Avneet Kaur, Kha Ngan...

Mr. Rahul Bali, CEO of Innovations India Company, expressed his impression of Vietnam's beautiful landscape, diverse nature, friendly people and unique culture.

He said that the enthusiastic support of Vietnamese authorities and companies and enterprises during the production process has created favorable conditions for the film crew to complete the filming. The film is currently in the post-production stage. It is expected that Love in Vietnam will be released in more than 1,000 cinemas in India, reaching about 8 million viewers.

Affirming that cinema has become a tool to promote tourism, Mr. Rahul Bali suggested that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinate to promote the film, including preparing a trailer introducing Vietnamese landscapes with a duration of about 40 seconds, to be shown before each film to directly introduce the image of the country, people, culture and tourist destinations of Vietnam to the Indian people.

The Indian representative shared that the film crew has prepared the next project called Silaa, which is expected to start production in August with many scenes shot in caves and famous landscapes in Vietnam. Mr. Rahul Bali expressed his desire to continue cooperating with Vietnamese partners in the film industry, considering Vietnam a potential production destination for Bollywood.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong affirmed the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and India. In the current context, the two countries have become strategic partners and key markets for each other. Vietnam always attaches importance to and promotes cooperation with India in many fields, including culture, tourism and cinema.

The Deputy Minister appreciated the close coordination between Indian producers and Vietnamese localities and businesses, affirming that the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism welcomes Bollywood filmmakers to choose Vietnam as a location to film and release films to the world.

With beautiful natural landscapes, unique cultural heritage, friendly people, safe environment and gradually improved infrastructure, Vietnam has the potential and favorable conditions to develop cooperation in the fields of tourism and cinema. The Ministry is committed to supporting preferential policies, facilitating licensing procedures and effective coordination between relevant authorities and localities.

In the context of Vietnam promoting its tourism campaign in India, the cooperation in promoting the film Love in Vietnam is an opportunity to promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam to Indian friends through cinema. The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the specific cooperation ideas from India; the two sides agreed to coordinate in organizing the announcement of the launch of the film Love in Vietnam and at the same time expand the scale of the organization of the "Hello Vietnam" Festival (Namaste Vietnam Festival), inviting Indian filmmakers, artists, businesses, wedding planning companies... to participate.

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong welcomed the cooperation initiatives and agreed with specific ideas on enhancing cultural and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and India in the coming time.
