Accelerating construction during the 90-day peak period.
The construction site for the expansion of the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway from 2 lanes to 4 lanes is entering its peak phase of 90 consecutive days of construction, as initiated by the Ministry of Construction . The Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board - the investor - is closely coordinating with contractors to mobilize maximum manpower, machinery, and equipment for the construction.
According to Mr. Nguyen Vu Quy, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board, 15 pile foundation construction teams have been simultaneously deployed along the entire route at 15 bridges; 6 girder casting yards are also being urgently completed to be ready for mass production in July 2025.
Regarding the road construction, eight construction teams are currently carrying out excavation and embankment work for road widening. Hundreds of technical staff, engineers, and workers have been mobilized, working three shifts continuously day and night with the goal of not only ensuring progress but also focusing on the quality of the project, occupational safety, and environmental hygiene.

As required by the investor, contractors are not allowed to let the construction process affect the daily lives of residents on both sides of the route. Temporary traffic safety measures, dust and noise reduction, and construction waste management are being implemented simultaneously to minimize the impact on the environment and the local community.
Towards full line synchronization
In parallel with the expansion of the La Son - Hoa Lien section, the Ministry of Construction recently approved the investment plan for the expansion of the Cam Lo - La Son expressway, connecting Quang Tri and Hue City, from 2 lanes to 4 lanes. The project has a total investment of over 6,400 billion VND, with a total length of nearly 99km, of which approximately 36km passes through Quang Tri and nearly 63km through Hue City.
The Cam Lo - La Son expressway has been expanded to four lanes to accommodate the current high volume of traffic. The section passing through Hue City retains its four existing interchanges and adds two new interchanges at Km 65+300 (Provincial Road 16) and Km 72+370 (Provincial Road 12B), facilitating flexible connectivity between the expressway and the local road network.
The route starts at Km 0+00, intersecting with National Highway 9 (in Hieu Giang commune, Quang Tri province), and ends at Km 102+200, connecting to the La Son Expressway (Loc Son commune, now Hung Loc commune, Hue City) - Hoa Lien Expressway (Da Nang City). Upon completion, the two projects will form a continuous, modern expressway axis from Cam Lo to Da Nang.
With the large scale of expansion and the massive volume of roadbed and bridge construction, the need for fill material is a pressing issue that the investor and the localities through which the road passes are concerned about.
Regarding this matter, the Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, Mr. Phan Quy Phuong, directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take the lead in reviewing and adding areas with potential for leveling materials in the former Phong Dien town and the former Phu Loc district to the plan for auctioning mineral exploitation rights.
“The goal is to proactively exploit and effectively manage land resources for leveling purposes to serve key projects, contributing to maintaining progress and saving costs for contractors. This is also the foundation for the sustainable infrastructure development orientation of Hue City in the future,” Mr. Phan Quy Phuong emphasized.
The proposed areas for inclusion in the plan are conveniently located near major transportation routes, do not negatively impact the environment, and reduce transportation costs. The Department of Agriculture and Environment is coordinating with relevant departments and divisions to finalize the dossier for submission to the Hue City People's Committee for consideration and approval.
The investment in expanding the La Son - Hoa Lien and Cam Lo - La Son expressways is of great significance in completing the eastern North-South transportation axis; gradually realizing the national expressway network plan. Once operational, this interconnected expressway will not only shorten travel time between localities in Central Vietnam, but also reduce pressure on National Highway 1A, contributing to reducing traffic accidents, promoting socio-economic development, and ensuring national defense and security in the region.
The La Son - Hoa Lien expressway expansion project has a total length of 66km, with an investment of over 3,000 billion VND, connecting Hue City and Da Nang City, and linking to the Cam Lo - La Son expressway. Upon completion, the project, together with the Cam Lo - La Son route, will form a modern and synchronized national expressway network. |
