From the beginning of the year to the end of August 2025, Hanoi tourism welcomed nearly 21.6 million visitors. This is a record number, the highest ever. Of which, domestic visitors reached 16.62 million. Tourism cooperation and linkage with localities have contributed to this result.

In recent years, the city has had many tourism cooperation activities with the provinces in the Northwest, Northeast, North Central and South regions. Particularly with the Central Highlands region, there are also certain foundations.

In the 2017-2020 period, Hanoi signed cooperation agreements with many provinces in the region, organized famtrip programs, and connected businesses.

In recent years, the capital has also coordinated to organize the Local Cultural Tourism Day in Hanoi, participating in the Forum on tourism development linkage between Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City and the central provinces.

However, there is still much room for tourism development cooperation, especially in the Central Highlands region after the administrative reorganization. Cooperation activities aim to promote potential, seek opportunities, welcome new visitors as well as create more tourism products for customers and businesses in the capital.

Therefore, in late September 2025, the Hanoi Department of Tourism organized a working delegation to Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces to implement the Program to promote, advertise, cooperate in tourism development and exchange experiences, connecting community tourism products associated with agriculture and rural areas.

This is not only a single promotional activity, but also a strategic step to create a sustainable tourism chain between the capital and the Central Highlands provinces.

Within the framework of the program, the working delegation including representatives of the Department of Tourism, Hanoi Tourism Association, officials of several communes and wards, and dozens of travel businesses in the capital organized a space to display OCOP products, community tourism models, agricultural tourism and traditional craft villages to introduce the tourism potential, tourism products, and unique culinary features of the capital to businesses and customers in the Central Highlands region.

The cultural check-in area of Hanoi and Dak Lak, along with unique souvenir products, has attracted many local tourists.

Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Tran Trung Hieu said: “Hanoi alone will not be enough to enrich the tourist experience. Tourism cooperation and linkage activities with the Central Highlands provinces aim to build unique, diverse and highly attractive inter-provincial and inter-regional tourism product chains, creating a colorful tourism picture, bringing sustainable benefits to all parties.”

From this cooperation orientation, the Hanoi Department of Tourism proposed 4 specific directions of action in the coming period: Organizing a conference to connect businesses to build a two-way tourism route from Hanoi to the Central Highlands provinces and welcoming visitors from this region to Hanoi; Coordinating to promote and advertise products in Hanoi and the provinces; Promoting communication through newspapers, television and digital platforms; producing promotional films, organizing festivals, and introducing new products.

It is expected that in March 2026, Hanoi will invite the Central Highlands provinces to participate in the Hanoi Tourism Festival, thereby building combo packages and package tours to promote key products. Within the framework of the program, the Hanoi delegation surveyed many typical destinations in the Central Highlands region such as: Buon Ma Thuot Prison, Draynur waterfall on the Srepok River, Ta Dung Lake, Sound Museum, Eva Village eco-village... to build tourism products linked with Hanoi in the future.

On this occasion, the Hanoi Department of Tourism signed a memorandum of cooperation on tourism development for the 2026-2030 period between Hanoi and the provinces of Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Lam Dong, Quang Ngai, and Khanh Hoa.

This is a strategic step, paving the way for long-term action programs, especially in the context of new administrative units being arranged from July 1, 2025, creating localities with more diverse advantages; at the same time, it is a strategy for sustainable tourism development, spreading the image of a friendly and attractive Vietnam.
