In the final of the men's 1,500m freestyle at the 2025 Asian Swimming Championships, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang excellently finished first with a time of 15 minutes 15 seconds 01, winning a historic gold medal. This is the first time Huy Hoang has stepped onto the highest podium in the continental arena, affirming his strong comeback after many years of tirelessly pursuing the top.
In this competition, Hoang had to compete with 7 opponents from Uzbekistan, India, Japan, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Thailand and Malaysia. With reasonable tactics, the ability to accelerate in the final stage and inherent perseverance, he overcame all to become the Asian champion for the first time.
Previously, Huy Hoang's highest achievement at this playground was only the Silver Medal (HCB) of ASIAD 2018.
According to the leader of the swimming department of the Vietnam Sports Administration, this year's tournament lacks a number of strong swimmers from China, Japan and South Korea, opening up opportunities for athletes from other regions.
However, it is worth noting that Huy Hoang took advantage of the opportunity and competed with great courage to bring home an important gold medal for Vietnamese swimming.
The result of 15 minutes 15 seconds 01 is also Hoang's best parameter in the past year. At the 2024 Olympics, he achieved 15 minutes 18 seconds 63, and at the 2025 World Championship, the result was 15 minutes 19 seconds 39.
Although he has not come close to his previous national record of 14 minutes and 41 seconds, his performance in India still shows the progress and determination of the swimmer from Quang Binh .
