On the evening of October 8th, Nguyen Huy Hoang brought home the fourth gold medal for the Quang Tri swimming team at the 2025 National Swimming Championships. He finished first in the men's 200m freestyle with a time of 1 minute 50 seconds 13.
This is also the fourth gold medal that Huy Hoang has won, after the men's 1,500m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and 800m freestyle.
Nguyen Huy Hoang's four gold medals helped the Quang Tri swimming team climb to the top four in the overall medal standings so far in the competition. Ahead of them are the Ho Chi Minh City team (12 gold medals), Tay Ninh (8 gold medals), and the Army team (7 gold medals).
However, these swimming teams all have more than one individual competing for the gold medal. Therefore, Huy Hoang's efforts with the Quang Tri swimming team are very much worth mentioning.
Nguyen Huy Hoang, born in 2000, is currently one of Vietnam's top swimmers. He is a gold medal prospect for the national swimming team at the SEA Games and a strong hope for medal contention at the Asian Games.
The 2025 National Swimming Championships have now completed five days of competition, but only one national record has been broken so far. That was the case of Vo Thi My Tien (Tay Ninh).
She broke the national record in the women's 100m butterfly, which had stood for 11 years, previously held by Nguyen Thi Anh Vien. My Tien finished first with a time of 1 minute 0 seconds 64. Anh Vien's previous record in this event was 1 minute 0 seconds 69.
Also on the evening of October 8th, My Tien brought home two more individual gold medals for the Tay Ninh swimming team in the women's 200m freestyle and 200m breaststroke events.
