On the evening of October 8, Nguyen Huy Hoang brought home the Quang Tri swimming team's fourth gold medal at the 2025 National Swimming Championship. He finished first in the men's 200m freestyle with a time of 1 minute 50 seconds 13.
This is also the fourth gold medal that Huy Hoang has won, after the men's 1,500m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 800m freestyle.
Nguyen Huy Hoang's 4 gold medals helped the Quang Tri swimming team climb to the top 4 of the medal table so far in the tournament. Above them are the Ho Chi Minh City swimming team (12 gold medals), Tay Ninh (8 gold medals) and the Army (7 gold medals).
However, these swimming teams all have more than one individual competing for the gold medal. Therefore, Huy Hoang's efforts in the Quang Tri swimming team are worth mentioning.
Nguyen Huy Hoang, born in 2000, is currently one of the leading swimmers in Vietnamese swimming. He is a gold mine for the national swimming team at the SEA Games, and a hope to compete for medals at the ASIAD.
The 2025 National Swimming Championship has now entered its fifth day of competition, but has only seen one national record broken. That was the case of Vo Thi My Tien (Tay Ninh).
She broke Nguyen Thi Anh Vien’s 11-year national record in the women’s 100m butterfly. My Tien finished first with a time of 1 minute 0.64 seconds. Anh Vien’s previous record for this distance was 1 minute 0.69 seconds.
Also on the evening of October 8, My Tien brought home two more individual gold medals for the Tay Ninh swimming team in the women's 200m freestyle and women's 200m breaststroke events.
