Cyclist Nguyen Thi That participates in the world's most prestigious cycling tournament

After winning the Asian gold medal and a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Nguyen Thi That returned to Europe to play for the Israel-Premier Tech Roland Club. According to the plan, Nguyen Thi That will participate in the prestigious Giro d'Italia race. This is one of the three biggest Grand Tours in the world today, along with the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana, for women.

The 2023 Giro d'Italia Donne will have nine stages, covering a total of 928km. The race will start on June 30 with a 4.4km individual time trial in Chianciano, Italy. The remaining eight stages will be very difficult, mostly on mountain roads.

The tournament has the participation of 24 racing teams, each team has 7 athletes. Of these, 15 teams have reached UCI WorldTeam level. Nguyen Thi That will have the opportunity to compete with the world's top racers. On the International Cycling Union (UCI) rankings, Nguyen Thi That is ranked 101st and 2nd in Asia, after Yanina Kuskova (Uzbekistan).

By participating in the Giro d'Italia Donne 2023, Nguyen Thi That will not participate in the National Women's Cycling Open - Loc Troi Cup 2023. Loc Troi Group team prioritizes Nguyen Thi That to go to Europe to continue improving her ability, aiming for the Asiad at the end of this year.

Mr. Tran Hai Trieu - General Secretary of An Giang Bicycle & Motor Sports Federation said: " We will compete with the highest determination but not focus on results so that Nguyen Thi That can feel secure in training and competing in Europe ."

The National Women's Cycling Open Championship - Loc Troi Cup 2023 will start from July 7. Vietnam has 10 participating teams, with many strong teams such as Loc Troi Group, Biwase Binh Duong , XSKT Dong Thap, TP.HCM Vinama... The Thai cycling team will also participate in this year's tournament.
