According to the report at the meeting, the development of cocoa trees has been unstable in recent times. The country had more than 25,000 hectares of cocoa in 2012 but now only 3,500 hectares remain. The cocoa area has decreased due to being replaced by other more advantageous crops.

Thematic meeting to discuss circular economy solutions in the cocoa industry for the period 2022 - 2026

Since 2022, HELVETAS Vietnam has focused on transforming the cocoa/chocolate sub-sector to a circular economy approach at key stages in the product life cycle.

Along with cocoa, HELVETAS Vietnam replicates the circular economy application method to other agri-food industries .

Delegates give opinions on developing a circular economy for cocoa

HELVETAS Vietnam expects to increase income for 3,500 cocoa farming households by applying circular economy solutions; creating jobs or better job opportunities for 500 workers.

HELVETAS Vietnam wants to promote 6 cocoa companies to move to a circular economy model; 4,000 tons of cocoa produced with new solutions; 100 tons of cocoa product packaging produced...

Delegates presented papers on circular economy solutions in the cocoa industry; building and developing a value chain development model for the cocoa industry.

Solutions to exploit the potential of cocoa husk circulation in livestock farming in the Central Highlands; circular economy in agriculture and some issues with cocoa trees; application of pyrolysis furnaces in biochar production for sustainable cocoa production in the Central Highlands... were raised by delegates at the meeting.
