According to Iran's Tasnim news agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked a US air base in Kuwait, which they described as the source of "aggression."
Although Iran did not specify which base was attacked, Kuwait is known to be a key US ally in the Persian Gulf region, home to several US military facilities, including Camp Arifjan.
The Kuwaiti military officially confirmed that its air defense system was used to intercept "enemy missiles and UAVs".
"The air defense system performed effectively. The interceptions were very successful," the Kuwaiti armed forces stated in a press release.
This latest missile and drone attack by Iran is a direct response to the US airstrikes that struck targets near the southern port city of Bandar Abbas on the night of May 24th and early morning of May 25th.
According to Reuters and Associated Press, the U.S. military shot down four Iranian attack drones that were threatening U.S. forces and commercial shipping in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. also conducted an airstrike on a UAV ground control center in Bandar Abbas, where, according to the Pentagon, a fifth UAV was being prepared for launch.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) emphasized that these actions were "calculated, purely defensive, and aimed at maintaining the ceasefire."
