Challenges in applying artificial intelligence in education management.

In the era of rapidly developing Industry 4.0, the application of artificial intelligence in teaching and educational management opens up many opportunities but also presents numerous challenges.

Professor Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences (Ministry of Education and Training), believes that AI plays a crucial role in reshaping the development thinking and educational strategies of each country. Administrators and educators are the pioneering and key forces in implementing educational policies. In this context, AI is considered a useful tool for developing students' abilities and qualities.

Accordingly, developing AI capabilities not only creates a creative learning environment but also helps students recognize their potential, contributing to the development of critical thinking and aiming to become global citizens in the future. This is because AI has a comprehensive impact on the three main pillars of education: curriculum; teaching and learning processes; and assessment. This increases access to education, promotes personalized education, enhances self-learning, innovates and improves teaching effectiveness, and fosters lifelong learning habits.

Experts attending the conference argued that, in the context of rapid digital transformation, the explosion of AI has profoundly impacted all aspects of life. Education is considered one of the sectors most significantly affected, presenting both opportunities and challenges. Among the most concerning issues are the potential widening of the digital divide (favorable for areas with better infrastructure, internet access, and equipment, and vice versa), ethical issues related to AI, data security, dependence on technology, and the accuracy and objectivity of content.

Regarding this issue, Master Do Duc Lan, Deputy Head of the Department of Science Management, Training and International Cooperation (Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences), further shared that, through a study conducted in collaboration with UNICEF Vietnam in 2024, among more than 11,000 students in 22 provinces and cities nationwide, the results showed that only over 23% of students knew about AI from school, while the majority learned from books, newspapers, and social media.

Regarding the difficulties in using AI, the students indicated three main issues: a lack of knowledge and skills in AI, a lack of equipment and technology, and a lack of guidance from teachers. This shows that many schools still lack systematic and planned programs to support students in using AI.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Phong, Vice Rector of FPT University and CEO of FPT Schools System (FPT Group), stated that for the past two years, FPT Schools has implemented programs on AI, robotics, and STEAM according to international standards to teach students from grade 1. The positive results over the past period partly reflect the strong learning ability and capacity to absorb and keep up with scientific and technological advancements among Vietnamese youth and students.

In the coming years, it is predicted that society will experience remarkable advancements in science and technology, with increasing diversity and complexity. However, if the education sector provides favorable conditions for students to hone their skills and expertise, we will have a very strong workforce in science and technology, fully capable of competing with other countries in the world.
