The products of Vavi Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Cooperative (An Dinh village, Thuy Van commune) are well-known and trusted by many people.

The number of OCOP products is increasing.

In 2000, after learning from successful mushroom cultivation models in Dong Nai province, Mr. Cao Huy Thuyet, from Van Don village, Hong Dung commune, decided to invest in commercial mushroom farming. He shared: "I was the first mushroom farmer in the commune. Seeing that my hometown had an abundance of straw, I took advantage of this resource to produce mushrooms. Initially, I only tried growing over 100 bags of mushroom spawn, mainly selling them locally, and it yielded better-than-expected economic results. Success in successive mushroom crops paved the way for me to expand to 5 mushroom growing houses with an area of over 1,000 square meters . I mainly grow wood ear mushrooms, grey oyster mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, button mushrooms... which are easy to grow, easy to care for, and have relatively high economic value. The products are mainly sold in the Northwest provinces and wholesale markets in Hanoi ." Each year, I sell 30 tons of fresh mushrooms of various types at a price of 30,000 VND/kg. In addition, I also produce mushroom spawn to supply the market. In 2024, with the support of the local authorities and relevant agencies of Thai Thuy district, my oyster mushroom product was certified and ranked as a 3-star OCOP product. Being recognized as an OCOP product not only affirms the quality of the product but also helps the business expand its market.

Also in 2024, the Vavi Agricultural and Commercial Service Cooperative (An Dinh village, Thuy Van commune) had its Gynostemma pentaphyllum tea bags product achieve OCOP 3-star certification. Currently, the cooperative is one of the exemplary cooperatives in developing OCOP products in the locality. Previously, in 2023, the cooperative had its Perilla tea bags product recognized as a 3-star OCOP product. Mr. Dao Huu Nghi, Director of the cooperative, said: The recognition of Perilla tea bags and Gynostemma pentaphyllum tea bags as 3-star OCOP products is a driving force for the cooperative to continuously upgrade and improve, aiming to provide the best quality products for consumers. Towards sustainable development, the cooperative has linked with households in the commune to grow Gynostemma pentaphyllum, Perilla, Ocimum basilicum, lotus, etc., to secure raw materials for production. At the same time, it has signed contracts to cultivate raw materials with some households in highland communes of Hoa Binh province to expand the medicinal plant growing area. Thanks to strict adherence to production processes and food safety standards, after 7 years of establishment, the cooperative now has more than 10 products such as herbal tea, shampoo, and bath soap, all of which have improved labeling, quality, and are equipped with codes, barcodes, and traceability labels. Therefore, the products are well-known and trusted by many consumers.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thai Thuy district, in 2024, in addition to oyster mushrooms and Gynostemma pentaphyllum tea bags, the district had glutinous rice (sticky rice) from Thuy Ninh commune, fragrant glutinous rice from Thuy Duyen commune, Thuyen Quan glutinous rice wine from Son Ha commune, and Diem Dien fish sauce from Diem Dien Seafood Trading Joint Stock Company that were evaluated and ranked as OCOP 3-star and 4-star products. Currently, the district has 44 products recognized as meeting OCOP 3-star and 4-star standards.

Supporting the upgrading of OCOP products.

Being recognized as a 3-star or 4-star OCOP product has helped Thai Thuy's agricultural products establish a firm foothold in the market. To elevate OCOP products, localities have supported cooperatives and business households with concentrated production areas; promoted clean production models along the value chain; applied science, technology, and advanced techniques in production and business; and strictly implemented food safety regulations to improve product quality and production efficiency. Mr. Vu Huu Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuy Van commune, said: The commune has 4 OCOP 3-star and 4-star products from Vavi Agricultural and Pharmaceutical and Trade Service Cooperative and Gotafarm Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Cooperative. In the past, the commune has focused on supporting entities with OCOP-certified products, such as creating conditions for building raw material growing areas with an area of more than 2 hectares; In coordination with credit institutions, the cooperatives have facilitated access to preferential capital for OCOP entities, enabling them to confidently invest in expanding their scale and improving product quality.

To support OCOP product producers in securing stable raw material sources and linking them along the value chain to ensure market supply, Mr. Dinh Ba Luong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Ha commune, shared: In 2024, the commune had Thuyen Quan glutinous rice wine product that achieved OCOP 3-star standard. To overcome difficulties and support OCOP producers in developing raw material areas, the commune directed cooperatives to plan glutinous rice production areas with an area of about 100 hectares, ensuring 180 tons of glutinous rice per year. In the raw material area, infrastructure has been invested in comprehensively, including main roads, internal field roads within the production area, and irrigation.

To enhance and further develop OCOP products, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thai Thuy district has guided and urged localities to strengthen propaganda work and raise awareness about the OCOP program; coordinated training and guidance for entities to prepare dossiers for the evaluation and ranking of OCOP products; trained OCOP entities on digital transformation, innovation in production organization, management skills, marketing and sales skills, packaging design, labeling and product design skills; and supported businesses and cooperatives in promoting and introducing OCOP products.
