The most impressive feature is the system of approximately 200 caves, which are massive in scale and length, possessing significant natural landscape value and opening up potential for the development of cave exploration tourism in Lang Son province.

Take advantage of

According to experts, many caves in the park are the result of underground rivers flowing through the past, creating intact labyrinths of stalactites and stalagmites with diverse shapes and colors.

According to Dr. Tran Tan Van, a senior expert on Geoparks, effectively utilizing the advantages of tourism development is essential. Lang Son province needs to investigate and inventory caves to create a management basis, thereby building a long-term strategic plan. Guides and service providers for cave exploration need to be properly trained in cave safety and conservation.

Dr. Mai Thi Phuong, from the Faculty of Tourism and Foreign Languages, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, suggests that a circular economy model should be applied to reduce negative impacts on the environment in park areas; encourage the use of green fuel transportation such as electric vehicles and bicycles; and create souvenir products from recycled materials or sustainable local raw materials.

From 2024 to the present, the Lang Son Provincial Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion has collaborated with the Australian Business Association in Vietnam to promote cooperation in trade, investment and tourism; and, together with the National Cave Association of the United States, the National Cave Association of France and Viet Nam Expeditions, has surveyed and developed tour routes, creating unique cave exploration tourism products while ensuring compliance with UNESCO's nature conservation criteria.

According to Pham Thi Huong, Head of the Lang Son Geopark Management Department (Lang Son Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center), developing geotourism is a new trend that aligns with the province's potential, creating strong connections between cultural, educational, transportation, agricultural, and environmental sectors. To date, 30 surveys have been conducted, and maps of Khuon Bong Cave in Vu Le commune and Nguom Mooc Cave in Binh Gia commune are scheduled to be published in 2025.

This provides an important scientific basis for developing in-depth exploration tours, while also supporting the management and protection of the stalactite and stalagmite formations. The Lang Son Geopark Management Department focuses on raising awareness among the community and preventing negative impacts from humans on the cave environment.

In June 2025, the Lang Son Provincial Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion and the National Cave Association of the United States held an online signing ceremony for a memorandum of cooperation in the field of cave exploration.

Subsequently, the National Cave Association of the United States implemented the mapping of several caves in the park area; introduced American and international explorers to the caves in Lang Son; collaborated on policy, mechanism, project, strategy, plan, and action program consultations in the field of cave conservation and promotion; and developed and promoted cave exploration routes, destinations, and tourism products to the global association system.

According to expert Carson, a member of the National Cave Association of the United States, the cave system in Lang Son possesses immense geological and geomorphological value and remains in its pristine state. However, to develop sustainable tourism, local authorities need to focus on raising public awareness about protecting the caves' current state.

A solid foundation for development.

According to Pham Van Manh, Director of Viet Nam Expeditions, the cave tourism product, despite being newly launched, has attracted a large number of tourists. The company has implemented a standard safety system and complied with the national standard TCVN 12592 (ISO 21101), welcoming more than 1,000 tourists to participate in the experience.

David Miller, a tourist from the United States, said: “I am very impressed with the caves and natural landscapes of Lang Son. The combination of cave exploration and relaxation in villages implementing Net Zero, such as Lan Nong in Cai Kinh commune, creates a perfect experience, both thrilling and relaxing.”

Larar, a tourist from the United States, shared her experience after a four-day trip to Huu Lien commune: "Conquering the high cliffs and looking down at the peaceful valley below was indescribable. But what we loved most was the friendliness of the people. The children waved, the locals always had radiant smiles, and the local meals with fresh ingredients from their gardens made the trip invaluable."

In the first quarter of 2026, the Lang Son Provincial Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion proactively welcomed and worked with many prestigious expert delegations from the National Cave Association of the United States, the Velebit Scenic Society (Croatia), the SPEKUL Cave Club (Belgium), and the Dongguan University Cave Club (South Korea).

According to the plan, in the second quarter of 2026, the unit will accelerate the completion of infrastructure to ensure safety at Vuon Cave (Van Linh commune), Nuoc Cave (Huu Lien commune), and Nguom Mooc Cave (Binh Gia commune); at the same time, it will renovate and upgrade the Mai Pha archaeological site. Measures to protect visitors, such as installing water level signs at Keng Tao Cave (Vu Le commune) and warning of the risk of rockfalls at Tham Khuyen-Tham Hai Cave (Tan Van commune), will also be implemented simultaneously.
