Tragedy involving a bus carrying wedding guests in Australia.

Ten people were killed and 25 others injured after a bus carrying wedding guests crashed on a road in the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia, on the evening of June 11.

The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) reported that the accident occurred at a roundabout near the Hunter Highway at 11:30 p.m. (local time). The bus passengers had just attended a wedding in the Wandin Estate area.

In addition to the 10 fatalities, 25 others were injured and transported to hospitals by helicopter and road, some in critical condition. At least 18 passengers were unharmed.

The bus driver, 58, has been arrested and is expected to be charged in connection with the accident, according to police officer Tracy Chapman. He was determined not to have been intoxicated but had been driving "irregularly" beforehand.

Authorities have sealed off the highway where the tragedy occurred, while forensic teams and investigators will examine the scene on June 12.

Cessnock Mayor Jay Suvaal said there was fog around the scene on the evening of June 11. Several helicopters were unable to land in the area after the accident.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the accident as a tragedy and offered his condolences and support to the families and loved ones of the passengers who perished.

New South Wales police are working to identify the victims and contact their relatives.

The company that operates the bus in question – a 2009 Volvo B7R with 57 seats – is Linq Bus Lines, a business with over 30 years of experience. According to their website, all of their buses are equipped with seat belts.
