In the joyous atmosphere of the family of war veteran Nguyen Van Thu, neighbors came to celebrate with them from early morning, some preparing tables and chairs, others bringing water, cups, and peanut candy to offer guests. The lively atmosphere brought tears to Mr. Thu's eyes (80 years old): "I never thought that at the end of my life I would have such a new, spacious, clean and beautiful house."

For many years, the couple lived in a small, single-story house of about 30 square meters, built in 1991. After more than three decades of rain and sun, the house had seriously deteriorated. The roof tiles leaked in many places, the walls were peeling, and the floor was low and damp. Every rainy season, the whole family worried anxiously.
Understanding Mr. Thu's family circumstances, the Veterans Association of Thu Vu commune, in coordination with the village's Front Committee and the family, surveyed the situation and developed a support plan. The new house was built on the old foundation, ensuring a solid foundation, walls, and roof, making it convenient for the elderly. The total construction cost was approximately 200 million VND. Of this amount, businessman and veteran Vu Anh Son, a member of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Entrepreneurs Association and Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Veterans Entrepreneurs Association, a native of the area, contributed 60 million VND; the remainder was contributed by the family, relatives, and local residents.

Beyond financial support, the construction of the house also received assistance from many organizations, individuals, and neighbors. During the construction period, some contributed labor, others provided support, and still others offered encouragement and support. This sharing helped complete the house on schedule, carrying with it the community's affection for the elderly veteran.
On the day of the house's inauguration, veteran Nguyen Van Thu expressed his gratitude to the Hung Yen Provincial Veterans Association, the Provincial Veterans Business Association, the local Party committee and government, and the people of the commune for their care and assistance. He especially thanked businessman and veteran Vu Anh Son – a comrade who has always been deeply concerned about his homeland. "This is not only material support but also a great source of encouragement for my family," Mr. Thu shared.
Sitting in the courtyard of his new home, Mr. Mai Cao Nâu, Mr. Thu's brother-in-law, couldn't hide his joy. He recounted that for many years, his family had hoped to have the means to renovate their old house but hadn't been able to. Now, witnessing his younger brother having a spacious and safe place to live, everyone was delighted.
