In May 2026, the consumer price index (CPI) in Nghe An province increased by 4.4% compared to the same period last year, mainly influenced by food, essential consumer services, and living expenses.

According to assessments, the general price level of consumer goods and services remained relatively stable, ensuring the government 's inflation control target was met. The supply of food and consumer goods at markets and supermarkets remained abundant, helping to stabilize prices for the people.

According to Nghe An Statistics, out of 11 groups of goods and services, 6 groups saw price increases compared to the previous month, including: Transportation (up 1.47%); Culture, entertainment and tourism (up 1.34%); Housing, electricity, water and construction materials (up 1.06%); Postal and telecommunications services (up 0.06%); Beverages and tobacco (up 0.05%); and Education (up 0.03%).

Four groups of goods saw a decrease in price index compared to the previous month: Food and food services decreased by 1.1%; Household equipment and appliances decreased by 0.4%; Clothing, hats, and footwear decreased by 0.06%; and Other goods and services decreased by 0.04%.

There is one product group that neither increased nor decreased compared to the previous month: Medicines and medical services.

On average, the consumer price index increased by 4.4% in the first five months of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year.

All 11 commodity groups increased compared to the same period last year, including: Food and food services increased by 6.27%; Housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials increased by 6.08%; Transportation increased by 4.37%; Beverages and tobacco increased by 3.51%; Clothing, hats and footwear increased by 3.3%; Other goods and services increased by 3.3%; Culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 2.39%; Household equipment and appliances increased by 1.14%; Postal and telecommunications services increased by 0.51%; Education increased by 0.13%; Medicines and medical services increased by 0.11%.

The gold price index in May 2026 decreased by 3.86% compared to the previous month, but increased by 34.28% compared to the same period last year. Domestic gold prices fluctuated in line with world gold prices.

The US dollar index in May 2026 rose 0.06% compared to the previous month and 0.76% compared to the same period last year.

In May 2026, demand for consumption, tourism, and entertainment in the province will increase significantly due to the April 30th - May 1st holiday and the start of the summer tourism season. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in May 2026 were estimated at VND 16,560.8 billion, an increase of 4.2% compared to the previous month and a 14.28% increase compared to the same period last year. For the first five months of 2026, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue were estimated at VND 78,904.3 billion, an increase of 13.62% compared to the same period last year.
