On September 2, 1969, upon hearing the news of President Ho Chi Minh's death amidst the fierce resistance war against the US, people of all ethnic groups in Vinh Long province organized a memorial service for him with immeasurable grief. This sorrow was quickly transformed into revolutionary will and a determination to continue fighting for the independence and freedom of the nation.

Driven by the heartfelt desire of local officials, Party members, and people for a place to worship President Ho Chi Minh, the Party Committee of Tra Vinh town, Tra Vinh province (formerly), decided to build a temple dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh in Vinh Hoi hamlet.

Construction began on March 10, 1970, and was completed on Lunar New Year's Eve of the Year of the Pig, January 26, 1971. However, shortly after, on March 10, 1971, the enemy mobilized aircraft, warships, and artillery to launch several fierce attacks on the temple area, burning down the structure.

Undeterred by the bombs and bullets, the people and soldiers of Long Duc fought while urgently rebuilding the temple. In the spring of 1972, the temple was completed for the second time. By the afternoon of April 29, 1975, facing defeat on the Southern battlefield, the enemy continued to bomb and damage parts of the structure.

After the reunification of the country, in accordance with the wishes of the people, the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Temple in Long Duc was renovated and beautified. In 1989, the site was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
The altar dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh inside the temple is cared for every day.
