According to MAUR, the IC cards used for passengers in the AFC system (automatic fare collection system for metro line 1) will include two types: high-security cards and medium-security cards. The high-security cards are used for top-up cards (SFC) and day passes, and have a red design.
The average security card used for single-journey (SJT) tickets has a blue design. Each IC card is equipped with a FeliCa chip using near-field communication (NFC) technology with a range of approximately 10 cm.

Regarding the design concept for the IC card used by passengers, the front of the card is inspired by iconic landmarks of the city such as the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee headquarters, Ben Thanh Market, the City Theatre, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Bitexco Tower, and the Landmark building. The back of the IC card will be printed with important information for using the card.
"The cards will be issued before metro line 1 is put into operation. In the near future, Hitachi, the contractor for package CP3 of metro line 1, will proceed with production and deliver the initial quantity for the time when metro line 1, Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien, is put into operation," a representative from MAUR informed.
Average security cards will be designed in blue.
Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, commenced 11 years ago with a total investment of over 43,700 billion VND from Japanese ODA loans and domestic counterpart funds. The line is nearly 20 km long, from Ben Thanh Station (District 1) to Long Binh Depot (Thu Duc City), with 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations. The total project completion to date has reached 95.25%, with over 56 million safe working hours.
The investor is coordinating with relevant units to implement tasks related to operation and exploitation, such as finalizing the pilot project for exploiting urban railway infrastructure assets; coordinating with the Department of Transport to finalize the fare plan for the initial operation phase… The project is expected to conduct trial operation of the entire line on September 2nd.
