With a narrow victory over Lam Dong in Round 12 of the 2026 National Second Division Football League, Vinh Long Club not only set an unbeaten record at home in the second half of the season but also almost certainly secured their place in the league for this season.

Despite facing the highly-rated Lam Dong team, the Vinh Long players delivered a dedicated performance, widely considered their best game of the tournament so far. The only goal, securing three points for Vinh Long, was scored by center-back Do Minh Thuan from a corner kick. This third consecutive win gives Vinh Long 11 points and extends their lead over bottom-placed Mekong Can Tho (who did not play in round 12) to six points. Meanwhile, dropping points in this round meant Lam Dong missed the opportunity to take the top spot. The remaining two matches in Group B ended in draws. Truong Giang Gia Dinh drew 0-0 with Dak Lak, while Quang Ngai and Tay Ninh played to a four-goal draw. The above results mean that the situation in Group B is still undecided, as the race for a place in the finals remains uncertain and promises to be even more exciting in the next round.
The 2026 National Second Division Football League has only two rounds left before the end of the qualifying phase. In the upcoming 13th matchday in Group B, Vĩnh Long only needs to secure a point in their away game against Quảng Ngãi FC to guarantee their survival in the league, regardless of the results of Mekong Cần Thơ FC's last two matches.
