In Phu Yen province, Major Truong Hong Ky, 42 years old, working at the Military Command of Song Cau town, died while swimming out to sea to rescue two people swept away by waves on September 1st.
At approximately 4:30 PM, Major Ky, while on duty in the area, spotted two people swimming at Dong Be beach in Xuan Thinh commune being swept away by waves and struggling in the water, so he swam out to rescue them.
After bringing the first person ashore, Major Ky continued swimming out to rescue the next person, but he became exhausted amidst the strong waves. He was rescued by locals and taken to the Song Cau town medical center for emergency treatment, but he did not survive. The remaining victim was brought to safety.
Major Ky is the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Song Cau Town Military Command. He has a wife and two young children and currently lives in the area. Tomorrow (September 2nd) is Major Ky's birthday.
The Command of Military Region 5 directed relevant agencies to coordinate with local authorities to handle funeral arrangements and provide support to Mr. Ky's family.
