Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong , General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission. Born on April 14, 1944; birthplace: Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi city. Permanent residence: No. 5, Thien Quang street, Nguyen Du ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi city. Joined the workforce in 1967; joined the Communist Party of Vietnam on December 19, 1967. Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th terms; Member of the Politburo for the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th terms; served as Standing Member of the Politburo for the 8th term; Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 11th and 12th terms; General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the 11th, 12th, and 13th terms. President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (2016-2021 term), Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council; Secretary of the Central Military Commission; Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Public Security Party Committee; Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and Negative Phenomena. Member of the National Assembly for the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th terms. After a period of serious illness, despite the dedicated care of the Party, the State, leading professors and doctors, and the devoted family, due to old age and severe illness, Comrade passed away at 1:38 PM on July 19, 2024 (corresponding to June 14, Year of the Dragon), at the Central Military Hospital 108, Hanoi, at the age of 80. Nearly 60 years of service, Comrade made many great and outstanding contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 55-Year Party Membership Badge, and many other prestigious medals and awards from Vietnam and internationally by the Party and the State. His passing is a great loss to the Party, the State, the people of Vietnam, and his family. To express our sorrow and remembrance of Comrade General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have decided to organize the funeral of Comrade General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong with state funeral rites. CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF VIETNAM NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM PRESIDENT OF THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM GOVERNMENT OF THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF THE VIETNAM FATHERLAND FRONT __________________________________ SUMMARY OF THE BIOGRAPHY OF COMRADE NGUYEN PHU TRONG General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam ----- Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, born on 14th Born in April 1944; birthplace: Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi city. Permanent residence: House No. 5, Thien Quang Street, Nguyen Du ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi city. Joined the workforce on December 5, 1967; joined the Party on December 19, 1967. WORK EXPERIENCE: December 1967: Comrade worked as a staff member in the Documentation Department of the Journal of Learning (now the Communist Journal); on December 19, 1967, he was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam. August 1968 - August 1973: Comrade was an editor at the Communist Journal; went on fieldwork in Thanh Oai district, Ha Tay province (now Hanoi); served as Secretary of the Youth Union Branch of the Communist Journal. September 1973 - April 1976: He was a postgraduate student in the Department of Economics and Politics at the Nguyen Ai Quoc Advanced Party School (now the Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy). May 1976 - August 1980: He worked as an editor in the Party Building Department of the Communist Magazine, and served as Deputy Secretary of the Party Branch. September 1980 - August 1981: He studied Russian at the Nguyen Ai Quoc Advanced Party School. September 1981 - July 1983: He was an intern and defended his doctoral dissertation in Historical Sciences (specializing in Party Building) at the Soviet Academy of Social Sciences, under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. August 1983 - August 1987: He served as Deputy Head of the Party Building Department of the Communist Magazine. September 1987 - February 1989: He served as Head of the Party Building Department; Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee (July 1985 - December 1988), Secretary of the Party Committee of the Communist Magazine (December 1988 - December 1991). March 1989 - April 1990: He served as a member of the Editorial Board of the Communist Magazine. May 1990 - July 1991: He served as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine. August 1991 - August 1996: He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine. At the Mid-term National Conference of the 7th Party Congress (January 1994), he was elected to the Central Committee of the Party. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th terms. August 1996 - February 1998: He served as Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee, concurrently Head of the University Cadre Committee and directly in charge of the Hanoi City Party Committee's Propaganda Department. At the 4th Conference of the 8th Central Committee of the Party (December 1997), he was elected to the Politburo. He was a member of the Politburo for the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th terms. February 1998 - January 2000: He was in charge of the Party's ideological, cultural, and scientific and educational work. March 1998 - November 2006: He served as Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, in charge of the Party's theoretical work (November 2001 - August 2006). August 1999 - April 2001: He served as a Standing Member of the Politburo and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. January 2000 - June 2006: He served as Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee for the 12th, 13th, and 14th terms. May 2002 - present: He was a Member of the National Assembly for the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th terms. June 2006 - July 2011: He served as Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 11th and 12th terms, Secretary of the National Assembly Party Caucus, and Member of the National Defense and Security Council. January 2011 - present: He served as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the 11th, 12th, and 13th terms, and Secretary of the Central Military Commission. February 2013 - present: He served as Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and Negative Phenomena. August 2016 - present: He served on the Standing Committee of the Central Party Committee of the Ministry of Public Security for the terms 2015-2020 and 2020-2025. October 2018 - April 2021: He served as General Secretary and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the term 2016-2021; Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council. April 2021 - present: He is the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Party Committee of the Ministry of Public Security, and Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and Negative Phenomena. Due to his numerous and exceptionally outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 55-Year Party Membership Badge, and many other prestigious medals and awards from Vietnam and internationally: the "National Gold Order" from the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the "Friendship Order" from the Party and State of the People's Republic of China, the "Lenin Prize" - the highest award of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation; the "José Marti Order" from the Party and State of the Republic of Cuba, and many other prestigious titles. __________________________________ LIST OF FUNERAL COMMITTEE Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam ----- 1. Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong's remains will be laid in state at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi City.
The memorial service for Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on July 25, 2024, and from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM on July 26, 2024. The funeral ceremony for Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at 1:00 PM on July 26, 2024, at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi. The burial will take place at 3:00 PM on the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi. Simultaneously, memorial services and funeral ceremonies for Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at the Reunification Hall, Ho Chi Minh City, and at his hometown, Dong Hoi Commune, Dong Anh District, Hanoi. Vietnam Television and Vietnam Radio will broadcast live the memorial service, funeral ceremony, and burial of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. During the two days of national mourning (July 25th and 26th, 2024), government agencies, offices, and public places will fly flags at half-mast and will not organize public entertainment activities.
