The Ministry of Health has just released its April health report, noting an upward trend in many infectious diseases. Regarding the epidemiological situation, dengue fever recorded 6,408 cases during the month, with one death. From December 14, 2025 to the present, the total number of cases has reached 44,965, with five deaths. Compared to the same period in 2025, the number of cases has increased 1.8 times and the number of deaths has increased by two.
Covid-19 is showing signs of a resurgence with 302 cases recorded this month, bringing the total number of cases from the end of 2025 to date to 356, 4.4 times higher than the same period last year. While not many severe cases have been recorded yet, the Ministry of Health assesses that this increase necessitates maintaining vigilance and close monitoring, especially in the context of a strong recovery in trade and tourism.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease recorded 11,808 cases and 3 deaths this month. Cumulative figures from December 14, 2025, reached 34,432 cases and 8 deaths. Compared to the same period in 2025, the number of cases has increased 2.5 times.
According to Mr. Vo Hai Son, Deputy Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health, the outbreak is most severe in the southern region. Testing systems have detected a high rate of the circulating EV71 virus strain, posing a risk of severe complications for pediatric patients.
Regarding influenza outbreaks, 17,894 cases were recorded nationwide in April 2026. From the beginning of 2026 to March 2026, the total number of cases recorded nationwide reached 52,865, with no deaths; compared to the same period in 2025, the number of cases decreased by 15.1%.
From the beginning of 2026, 20 deaths from rabies were recorded, a decrease of 4 cases compared to the same period in 2025. 697 cases of measles-like rash were recorded this month. The cumulative number of cases reached 3,127, with no deaths, a significant decrease compared to the same period last year, with the number of cases being 26.9 times lower.
Other diseases such as diphtheria, Chikungunya, influenza A H5N1, influenza A H9N2, and cholera did not record any cases during the month.
According to the head of the Department of Preventive Medicine, in May 2026, the Ministry of Health will continue to accelerate the completion of guiding documents for the implementation of the Law on Disease Prevention. In the context of complex disease developments, the Ministry of Health recommends strengthening surveillance of key infectious diseases, ensuring the supply of vaccines for the expanded immunization program, and completing the legal framework for disease prevention. At the same time, it recommends promoting environmental sanitation and disease prevention measures during the rainy season to limit the risk of widespread outbreaks.
