The Scottish Football Association has just announced the list of members participating in the biggest football event on the planet, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Notably, goalkeeper Gordon Gordon is among the 26 players announced for Scotland. This marks the 43-year-old goalkeeper's first appearance at a World Cup, despite many years with the Scottish national team.
Goalkeeper Gordon began his career at Currie Boys before becoming Hearts' number one goalkeeper from 2003 to 2007. There, he won the Scottish Cup with the team in the 2005-2006 season.
Sunderland then spent $12 million to bring goalkeeper Gordon to England in 2007. This was a record fee at the time for a goalkeeper in England. However, Gordon's time at Sunderland was not complete as he suffered a series of serious injuries and left the club in 2012.
After a two-year hiatus, goalkeeper Gordon returned to the pitch for Celtic in July 2014. There, he won five Scottish league titles, two Scottish Cups, and four Scottish League Cups. He also featured in the three seasons Celtic achieved a domestic treble between 2016 and 2019.
The goalkeeper, born in 1982, then left Celtic to return to Hearts in June 2020. He had considered retiring in the summer of 2025, but decided to continue after being given the opportunity to play for the 2026 World Cup by manager Steve Clarke.
While playing for Scotland, goalkeeper Gordon held the number one position from 2004 to 2010, before his career was interrupted by injury.
This goalkeeper reached the milestone of 50 appearances for the national team in 2017 and was inducted into the Scotland National Team Hall of Fame.
