In Phuoc Loi village (Ninh Phuoc commune), Mr. Nguyen Van Cang (50 years old) stepped on the hardened mud, wearing a sprayer to protect his 1,200m2 vineyard from disease. Looking at the piles of withered grapes lying scattered on the ground, Mr. Cang shook his head. If it hadn't been flooded to a depth of nearly 4 meters for many days, the entire vineyard would have yielded more than 1 ton of fruit, resulting in tens of millions of dong in profit, which is now completely lost.
Next to it, Mr. Tran Van Chien's (61 years old) orchard was even more devastated. His entire 1,200 square meters of apple trees, ready for harvest, were crushed. His 1,000 square meter grape trellis was uprooted and collapsed. When the floodwaters receded, Mr. Chien went to his orchard but then silently returned home, overwhelmed with grief. For days, his family has been trying to save the trees but without success. The cost of seedlings and rebuilding the trellis, amounting to tens of millions of dong, is simply too much.

A little over a kilometer away, in Phuoc Khanh village, Mr. Nguyen Quang Hao (54 years old) is diligently inspecting each apple tree in his 1,600m2 orchard. On the trellises, the apples are dark and their leaves are yellowed due to mud; at the base of the trees, the mud is a handspan thick; some of the support stakes have collapsed; and garbage has accumulated, covering the pathways. In recent days, his family has had to cut off the fruit, prune the branches, and clean the trees to save the remaining ones. Like many other households, Mr. Hao plans to reinvest in new seedlings and trellises early next year, but he is still worried about unpredictable floods, as rebuilding the orchard will require tens to hundreds of millions of dong.
According to Mr. Quang Thuc Doan, Chairman of the Ninh Phuoc Commune People's Committee, not only were grapes and apples swept away, but large areas of seedlings, irrigation systems, greenhouses, and trellises belonging to local people were also severely damaged after the flood. The local authorities are coordinating to assess the damage and propose that the province provide support to help people restore production.
The southern region of Khanh Hoa province (formerly Ninh Thuan) was once the largest grape-growing area in the country, with over 1,000 hectares and an annual production of 26,000 tons. Of this, nearly 300 hectares of vineyards were damaged by floods, mainly concentrated in the Ninh Phuoc, Phuoc Hau, Phuoc Dinh, and Vinh Hai areas.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khanh Hoa province, floods have affected nearly 19,000 hectares of crops in the area. To proactively mitigate damage and guide people and businesses in restoring agricultural production, the Department has requested its subordinate departments and units to coordinate with local authorities to urgently drain water, clean fields, and rehabilitate land after flooding; plow and prepare seeds for planting the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop according to the issued planting schedule.
The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection instructed regional stations to coordinate with agricultural extension forces to go directly to the affected areas to provide guidance and support in overcoming damage and resuming production before December 15th...
