Organizations and individuals doing business on e-commerce platforms and online channels paid about 98,000 billion VND in taxes in the first 6 months of the year.

According to the Tax Department ( Ministry of Finance ), organizations and individuals doing business on e-commerce platforms and online channels paid about 98,000 billion VND in taxes in the first 6 months of the year. This number increased by 58% compared to the same period last year.

In the first half of the year, 1,474 traditional business households converted into enterprises. In June alone, there were 910 households, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total number of converted households.

As of June 30, about 47,078 business households registered and used electronic invoices, exceeding the previous forecast by nearly 30%.

According to the Tax Department, in the first 5 months of the year, 137,000 business households and individuals registered, declared and paid taxes on the electronic information portal. They paid nearly 1,800 billion VND in taxes, an increase of more than 55% over the same period. Revenue increased thanks to the tax agency's promotion and support for business households and individuals in declaring and paying taxes.

The country currently has about 725,000 organizations and individuals doing business on e-commerce platforms, with a total transaction value of more than VND75,000 billion, according to data from 439 platforms provided to tax authorities. Tax revenue from this sector has continuously increased over the past three years. Specifically, revenue in 2024 will be about VND116,000 billion, a significant increase compared to the VND83,000 - 97,000 billion of the previous two years.

From July 1, e-commerce platforms and digital platforms must deduct and pay value-added tax (VAT) and personal income tax for sellers (households and individuals doing business) on the platform. The above taxes will be deducted as soon as the order is successfully confirmed and the buyer accepts payment.

To manage and monitor online transactions, tax authorities require intermediary organizations, floor managers, and digital platforms to utilize data and technology. Floors need to facilitate business households and individuals to reduce administrative procedures, pay taxes more easily, and prevent tax evasion. In addition, the Tax Department also builds a handbook for declaring and paying taxes on e-commerce activities for business households and individuals.
