The Prime Minister reviewed the country's positive results in socio-economic development in 2024. These businesses actively participated in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic, overcoming its consequences, and helping the country overcome current difficulties…

With the goal of achieving at least 8% GDP growth by 2025, the Prime Minister stated that the contribution of the business community, especially large enterprises, is crucial. Meetings with businesses aim to share and address difficulties and obstacles related to institutions, mechanisms, and policies; to provide feedback to the Government, ministries, and localities; and to listen to businesses' opinions on immediate and future tasks for continued development.
The head of government stated that we are aggressively implementing several very large projects such as the North-South high-speed railway, three standard-gauge railway lines connecting with China, and nuclear power plants...
The Prime Minister requested that, in the aforementioned major projects, businesses consider what work they can do, participate by registering to undertake it, and propose policy mechanisms for implementation, provided that it is not for self-interest and prevents corruption and negative practices.
Government leaders cited recent examples such as the request for Truong Hai Group (THACO) to research, transfer technology, and manufacture train carriages and eventually locomotives for high-speed railways; Hoa Phat Group to manufacture high-speed railway tracks; and FPT Group to focus on training high-quality human resources and designing semiconductor chips…

Reporting at the conference, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung stated that over nearly 40 years of reform, Vietnamese businesses have grown significantly in both quantity and quality, with more than 940,000 active enterprises, over 30,000 cooperatives, and more than 5 million business households.
In 2024 alone, over 233,000 new businesses were established or resumed operations, the highest number ever. Some businesses have developed to regional and global levels; proactively participating in and asserting their position and role in global supply chains, contributing to enhancing Vietnam's standing and reputation on the international stage.
The business sector has increasingly affirmed its important position and role in the socio-economic development, industrialization, and modernization of the country; contributing approximately 60% of GDP, 98% of total export turnover, and creating jobs for about 85% of the national workforce.
Besides the positive results, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung acknowledged that it is necessary to frankly recognize that the economy still faces many difficulties and challenges. The development of the business community and enterprises still has many limitations and shortcomings; the potential and room for development have not yet been effectively exploited.
Most businesses are small in scale, with limited competitiveness, operational efficiency, and management skills; business thinking remains "seasonal" and lacks strategic vision. Production and business in some sectors remain challenging, market purchasing power is weak, and recovery is slow.
