Prime Minister: "Without good entrepreneurs, the country cannot prosper."

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí04/10/2024

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurs to development, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that without a skilled workforce of entrepreneurs, the economic flow would stagnate and the country could not prosper.
On the morning of October 4th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting of the Government Standing Committee with representatives of 200 outstanding entrepreneurs and businesses on the occasion of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs' Day. He noted that the economic flow would stagnate without a skilled workforce of entrepreneurs. Acknowledging the important contributions of businesses in his opening remarks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that Typhoon Yagi had recently devastated 26 provinces and cities from the North to the North, causing immense damage to both lives and property. "We are deeply moved by the voluntary contributions, sharing, and assistance provided by businesses and entrepreneurs to those affected by the floods and storms, demonstrating the national spirit, solidarity, and unity of our people, which are always effectively demonstrated in times of difficulty and challenge," the Prime Minister said.

According to the Prime Minister, the Party, the State, and the Government always cherish Vietnamese entrepreneurs – talented, dedicated individuals with a deep sense of responsibility and a pioneering role in contributing to socio-economic development and enhancing the country's potential, prestige, and international standing. Affirming that Vietnam has never before possessed such a foundation, potential, position, and international prestige as it does today, the Prime Minister emphasized the contributions of entrepreneurs and businesses to these achievements. "The ancients said, 'Without industry, there is no wealth; without trade, there is no activity,' highlighting the indispensable importance of the entrepreneurial workforce to development. Without a skilled entrepreneurial workforce, the economic flow would stagnate, and the country could not prosper," the Prime Minister shared. He added that the Vietnamese entrepreneurial workforce has developed strongly in both quantity and quality and is increasingly asserting its crucial role in the economy. Some businesses have developed to regional and global levels, contributing to enhancing Vietnam's position and prestige on the international stage. At this meeting, the Prime Minister requested delegates to share their feelings, thoughts, impressions, concerns, and anxieties regarding the development of the country in general and of businesses and entrepreneurs in particular. He also wanted to hear suggestions on institutional frameworks to develop a healthy, open, transparent, and lawful business community, building a strong enough business community to help the country move forward and develop.

The Prime Minister emphasized the goal of striving to make Vietnam a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, and a developed country with high income by 2045. To achieve this goal, all stakeholders must participate, but businesses and entrepreneurs play a core role, according to the head of government . Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung stated that few large businesses have the capacity to lead, adding that with a constructive spirit, the Government and the Prime Minister have always stood alongside businesses, strongly implementing institutional reforms and improving the investment and business environment to facilitate business development. A recent quick survey shows that the business situation has become much more optimistic, reflecting strengthened confidence: the percentage of businesses assessing the macroeconomic situation positively over the next 12 months is five times higher than the previous survey. However, he also frankly stated that the development of the business community and enterprises still has limitations and shortcomings; the potential and room for development have not been effectively exploited. The majority of businesses are small in scale, with limited competitiveness, operational efficiency, and management skills; they still have a "seasonal" business mindset and lack strategic vision.

"The number of large-scale enterprises capable of leading supply chains is still small, and the level of linkage, cooperation, and ability to seize opportunities from international economic integration and the Fourth Industrial Revolution is weak," Mr. Dung noted. He also pointed out the reality that a segment of businesspeople lack high ethical standards, business culture, awareness of law compliance, social responsibility, and national spirit, and still violate the law. According to the Minister, the new context is posing new demands for the country's development orientation. "To be able to seize opportunities and keep up with new trends, we must prepare ourselves to be ready to enter a new era, the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise, as stated by General Secretary and President To Lam," Mr. Dung said. The Minister suggested that, in addition to institutional reforms, it is necessary to study policy packages of sufficient scale, appropriateness, and feasibility to support businesses and promote new growth drivers. He also hoped that the business community would strive to work with the Government to implement solutions. Solutions contribute to promoting socio-economic development, especially breakthrough, innovative, and creative solutions. "Large enterprises need to set an example, taking the lead in major, difficult, and new tasks, solving national-level problems to create momentum for economic development and create room for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in various fields," Mr. Dung emphasized.
