DNVN -FPT and the NUS Computing School of the National University of Singapore (NUS) have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the development of artificial intelligence (AI), including establishing a modern research lab, investing in promoting innovation, and training experts in the field of AI.

Under the memorandum of cooperation, FPT, together with NUS and other businesses in Singapore's and the Asia -Pacific AI ecosystem, plans to raise $50 million over the next five years for pioneering research and development of talent in the field of AI.

This collaboration helps FPT promote the commercialization of AI solutions and enhance research and development capabilities, boosting the development of high-quality AI human resources, contributing to improving the Group's competitive advantage in the Asia- Pacific region as well as globally.

One of the key activities of the cooperation agreement is that the two parties will jointly establish an AI research lab based on the research strengths of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the technological capabilities of FPT. This AI research lab will focus on researching and developing advanced technologies, including machine learning, data analytics, natural language processing, and computer vision, to solve practical problems in fields such as banking, insurance, logistics, transportation, aviation, energy, and manufacturing, contributing to promoting innovation in the field of AI in Vietnam, Singapore, and the Asia-Pacific region.

Simultaneously, researchers and experts from this AI Research Lab will also publish joint research papers and white papers in prestigious international journals and conferences, sharing new discoveries with the global academic and business communities.

Considered an important part of the NUS Computing ecosystem, this AI research lab will be located on campus and will work closely with the NUS Institute for Artificial Intelligence (NAII), which brings together experienced AI researchers and experts.

According to the cooperation agreement, FPT and NUS Computing will also seek opportunities to commercialize AI-integrated solutions, products, and services jointly researched and developed by both parties for the global market.

Another important aspect of the cooperation agreement is that both sides will promote the training of high-quality AI human resources through programs such as internships, workshops, training, and doctoral research, making a significant contribution to Vietnam and Singapore remaining at the forefront of technological innovation.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh emphasized: “AI is considered one of the core technologies shaping the future of industries and sectors. For more than a decade, FPT has actively pursued AI research and development to drive innovation and is integrating AI into all Made by FPT services and solutions. FPT has also invested heavily in training, ensuring the readiness of AI human resources. Collaborating with the prestigious National University of Singapore will help us harness the power of AI to drive the development and success of both parties, not only in Singapore and Vietnam but also globally.”

Professor Tan Kian Lee, President of NUS Computing, shared: “The partnership between NUS Computing and FPT is mutually beneficial. We aim to deliver cutting-edge AI solutions to address real-world challenges, while contributing to the AI ​​ecosystem in Singapore and globally through the development of highly skilled AI professionals.”

NUS is Singapore's leading university, comprising 16 schools and faculties across three campuses in Singapore, with over 40,000 students from 100 countries. With a half-century of AI research experience, the university maintains close ties with Singaporean government agencies, businesses, and international partners on numerous AI projects. In 2024, NUS established the Artificial Intelligence Institute, bringing together leading AI researchers and experts.

AI is considered one of the cutting-edge technologies, playing a core role in FPT's development strategy. The group will continue to invest strongly and comprehensively in all aspects, from human resources and infrastructure to databases and research, for this core technology. FPT will also integrate AI into every aspect of life and incorporate this technology into all products and solutions within the Made by FPT ecosystem, benefiting end users. Recently, FPT partnered with NVIDIA to invest in building an AI factory with an expected investment of $200 million. Previously, to strengthen its capabilities in the AI ​​field, FPT collaborated with leading companies such as Landing AI and AIOMATIC, and became a founding member of the AI ​​Alliance initiated by IBM and Meta. FPT currently has an AI workforce of over 1,500 engineers, along with additional resources from 1,300 FPT University students annually, as well as from the AI ​​Residency program in collaboration with the Mila Quebec AI Institute, to nurture young talents in the AI ​​field.

As one of FPT's cutting-edge technologies, AI is expected to create a competitive advantage, enabling FPT to quickly achieve its target of $5 billion in revenue from overseas markets and enhance its position among billion-dollar IT companies globally.
