The workshop is an important activity under the National Program on Energy Saving and Efficiency for the period 2019-2030, to be implemented in 2025, assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to the Center for Industrial and Trade Information in coordination with the Department of Oil, Gas and Coal. The event was attended by leaders from several Departments, Bureaus, and Institutes under the Ministry of Industry and Trade , and more than 50 delegates and experts from the Vietnam Energy Association and businesses operating in key energy-intensive industrial production sectors…
In his opening remarks at the workshop, Mr. Dang Hai Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Oil, Gas and Coal , stated: In the context of the world's efforts to address climate change, ensure energy security, and strive for equitable and sustainable development, hydrogen energy , especially green hydrogen, is increasingly recognized as a strategic solution with the potential to create far-reaching impacts on many domestic and international industries.

Mr. Dang Hai Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of Oil, Gas and Coal.
According to Mr. Dang Hai Anh, hydrogen is not only a clean energy source but also a key to reducing emissions in sectors that are "difficult to reduce emissions" such as metallurgy, chemicals, fertilizers, cement, long-distance transport, and industrial thermal systems. Many countries have identified hydrogen as an essential component in their medium- and long-term energy strategies; a series of research, application, and commercialization projects on both small and large scales are being vigorously implemented. International organizations predict that hydrogen could account for 20-30% of total global energy demand by 2050. This is not just a technological choice but an inevitable trend in the energy transition process.
In line with global trends, Vietnam has taken important strategic steps. At COP26, the Government committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, laying the foundation for a clean and sustainable energy transition. Major policy decisions by the Politburo and the Government have been continuously issued recently, including Prime Minister's Decision No. 280/QD-TTg approving the National Program on Energy Saving and Efficiency; and Decision 165/QD-TTg 2024 approving Vietnam's Hydrogen Energy Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050.
" This strategy affirms that hydrogen will become a new green growth engine, helping to enhance national competitiveness in the context of increasingly stringent international environmental standards, " Mr. Hai Anh emphasized.

Overview of the conference.
However, according to Mr. Dang Hai Anh, for hydrogen, especially green hydrogen, to truly enter production, business, and economic life, a synchronized coordination between the State, businesses, and research organizations is needed. The requirements are not only related to mechanisms and policies but also to technology, capital, infrastructure, and the transfer of international experience.
The Organizing Committee expects that diverse perspectives from regulatory agencies, businesses, experts, and researchers will make practical contributions to the process of institution building and create momentum to promote hydrogen development in Vietnam in the coming period.
The workshop focused on four key areas: providing an overview of the current status and development potential of hydrogen in Vietnam; sharing survey results on the demand and readiness for hydrogen application in key industries; exchanging practical experiences from pioneering enterprises in hydrogen research, testing, and application; and discussing solutions to improve mechanisms and policies to promote the formation of a hydrogen market in the future.
