Measure of business ethics

These are fake milk, poor quality cosmetics, even medicines that are not guaranteed in quality... This again sounds the alarm about the quality of goods floating on the market. And more dangerously, these acts are also assisted by famous people who have great influence on consumers, causing a significant impact on society.

In a way, this is also a criminal act. But unfortunately, such things still exist in the past, with a larger scale, level, and sophistication. Of course, the impact of these wrongdoings reaches many people, affecting the health, psychology, and finances of consumers. Because of the motive of "illegal enrichment", they deliberately ignore the provisions of the law. These acts are also considered crimes against our fellow countrymen and need to be severely punished.

In practice, getting rich has been encouraged, and an environment and legal framework have been created for fair competition. In the business community, many people know that Resolution 09 dated December 9, 2011 of the Politburo on building and promoting the role of Vietnamese entrepreneurs was born as an affirmation of the direction of business development in the new era, meeting the urgent requirements for affirming the position and role of entrepreneurs, and is a strong commitment of the Party and the State.

The Resolution highlights the viewpoint of building an equal and favorable production and business environment for entrepreneurs; creating a healthy legal environment, eliminating privileges and business monopolies. At the same time, the Resolution affirms creating conditions for private enterprises to have equal access to development resources, especially the implementation of investment projects in the form of public-private partnerships, encouraging private capital contribution to state-owned enterprises, etc.

Most recently, Resolution 68 of the Politburo on private economic development has officially taken effect, and even a competition to get rich is expected to be launched nationwide, so the playing field for businesses and entrepreneurs is increasingly open.

It must be admitted that, once the business environment is increasingly open, in recent years, businesses and entrepreneurs have grown steadily, making great contributions to the socio-economic development of the country in general and in the province in particular. With the strong rise of entrepreneurs and businesses, especially after Vietnam joined the world economic machine, it has contributed to changing the face of the country. Most typically, in Tien Giang province, the export turnover value has increased continuously every year and is close to reaching 6.5 billion USD by 2024. This figure has partly demonstrated the contribution of economic sectors, in which entrepreneurs and businesses play a leading role.

But to be fair, in addition to the contribution figures, we must also pay attention to the social responsibility of entrepreneurs and businesses towards the community and society. Most entrepreneurs and businesses, including individual businesses, have demonstrated good business ethics towards society and consumers in the past, but there are also many businesses that do not pay attention to, or deliberately neglect, their responsibilities. These are the responsibility to protect the environment, fulfill the obligation to pay the state budget, responsibility to employees, responsibility to consumers, etc.

Reality has shown that many entrepreneurs and businesses have “forgotten” their responsibilities. The evidence is that there are businesses that deliberately pollute the environment, have been handled by the authorities many times but still do not comply; many businesses are slow or deliberately owe taxes, evade taxes, commit tax fraud with very sophisticated behavior; many businesses ignore policies towards workers leading to strikes and work stoppages; and then commercial fraud, counterfeit goods, and fake goods still exist...

The current production and business environment is gradually shifting towards openness, fairness and openness. This does not mean that we can produce and do business at all costs, only pursuing the goal of profit. An open business environment associated with a strict handling mechanism for fraudulent and illegal acts is the right thing to do. This creates the foundation for sustainable development. It is not only a matter of complying with the law, but also an issue of ethics in production and business, but unfortunately this issue still exists in the past. Therefore, the measure of business ethics also needs to be recalibrated.
