The Cong Viettel receives its reward earliest in V-League.
According to our sources, the players of The Cong Viettel have already received their Tet bonuses. The amount has not been disclosed by the military team, but it is certainly no less than half a month's salary.
Previously, The Cong Viettel finished second in an international friendly tournament held at Hang Day Stadium (January 23-27). The prize money distributed to the players, although not much, was still a meaningful amount.
Apart from the The Cong Viettel players who have already received their Tet bonuses, most V-League teams are still waiting for announcements from their club leaders.
A Hanoi FC player revealed that the team has only been informed of the Tet holiday schedule and the resumption of training after Tet, but the Tet bonus amount is still unknown. Hanoi FC CEO Nguyen Quoc Tuan stated: "The Tet bonus is awaiting approval from the leadership; there is no specific figure yet."
At Ho Chi Minh City FC, the players are currently training diligently and... eagerly awaiting their Tet bonuses. However, one player stated that in the current difficult economic situation, Tet bonuses are very unpredictable, and there might even be no bonus at all, which everyone has to accept.
Some teams in the North, Central, and South are also planning Tet bonuses for their players, with amounts ranging from a few million to 20-30 million dong. Meanwhile, for struggling teams like Khanh Hoa... Tet bonuses may only be words of encouragement or a gift package.
Women's football, athletes do not receive Tet bonuses.
Following the 2023 Women's National Championship, women's football teams are still maintaining training sessions while waiting for the Lunar New Year holiday. Midfielder Tuyet Dung of Ha Nam Women's Club said: "Even though there are no tournaments, the players still have to train fully according to the training plan. We might hold a team meeting this week to hear the announcement about the Lunar New Year holiday schedule."
Speaking about Tet bonuses, the Vietnamese national team midfielder shared the difficulties the team faces: "Women's football is inherently difficult, with few tournaments, and the players are used to not receiving Tet bonuses. Except for a few players who are officially employed and may receive a few million dong as a bonus, young players only receive a small gift package to take home for Tet."
Tuyết Dung is one of the lucky Vietnamese female footballers to have a prosperous Lunar New Year. After the Vietnamese women's national team finished their journey at the 2023 World Cup, all the players received a bonus of over 700 million VND each from FIFA. This is a large sum of money that helps Tuyết Dung and her teammates in the national team not have to worry too much about their Lunar New Year bonuses.
"In 2023, women's football had many tournaments, so generally, the players who joined the national team brought home prize money for their families. But in 2024, with fewer tournaments, we don't expect much and just have to accept it," Tuyet Dung shared.
The situation for athletes is even more disheartening because for many years the sports sector has lacked regulations regarding prize money for athletes. Like the female athletes in shorts and jerseys, Vietnamese athletes receive prize money if they win medals at international competitions, while those who fail to achieve success are left with nothing to show for it during Tet (Lunar New Year).
Vietnamese football has been buzzing since the third day of Tet (Lunar New Year).
Most V-League teams will reconvene on the third day of the Lunar New Year to prepare for the 2023/24 V-League season, which will resume on the eighth day of the Lunar New Year (February 17th). After nearly two months of the league taking a break to make way for the national team, the players are eager to compete again. Also after the Lunar New Year, the Vietnamese national team is expected to reconvene in Hanoi on March 10th to prepare for two matches against Indonesia in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
