Taking advantage of the favorable weather, people in Ha Vu 3 hamlet (Thanh Cong commune) are planting spring rice.

The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Mien, from Ha Vu 3 hamlet, Thanh Cong commune, planted over 5 sao (approximately 0.5 hectares) of rice in this year's spring crop. From the beginning of the season, Ms. Mien's family and other members of the hamlet proactively dredged canals and brought water to the fields to prepare the land and plant within the correct timeframe. Ms. Mien's family chose a hybrid rice variety with good pest and disease resistance and high yield. "The spring crop is a crucial production season of the year, so planting within the correct timeframe will help ensure the quantity and quality of rice. To complete 100% of the planting area, we have brought in water." "From reservoirs and dams to electric pumps and scooping water with buckets...", said Ms. Nguyen Thi Mien.

For Thanh Cong commune, agricultural and forestry production remains a crucial economic sector. To ensure timely planting, from the beginning of January, the commune's People's Committee issued plans and guidelines for hamlets to coordinate closely with pumping stations to regulate water supply to the fields. Pumping stations in the commune have arranged appropriate water pumping schedules, ensuring that all areas receive sufficient water for land preparation and planting.

In 2026, Thanh Cong commune aims to achieve a total grain production of over 11,000 tons. Mr. Tran Doan Cuong, Head of the Economic Department of Thanh Cong commune, said: Before the planting season, the local government planned and directed the organization of water storage in reservoirs and dams, and organized the dredging of the irrigation canal system throughout the commune. In addition, they encouraged farmers to register to purchase rice seeds and fertilizers to meet production needs.

In Co Phi 1 hamlet, also in Thanh Cong commune, the atmosphere in the fields is bustling and urgent. The entire hamlet has more than 40 hectares of rice paddies, with 100% of the area having a guaranteed water supply for production. People are taking advantage of the warm, favorable weather to speed up the planting process. "We are striving to plant all the available land, and at the same time, we are developing a water management plan to ensure sufficient water for planting as well as water for nurturing the rice in the fields," affirmed Ms. Duong Thi Ha, Head of Co Phi 1 hamlet.

Locals utilize all available water sources for planting.
Local authorities are utilizing all available water resources to support the spring planting season.

In the northern communes, due to the specific soil conditions, the planting season is somewhat later than in the southern communes of the province, with the goal of completing transplanting before March 15th. Currently, farmers are focusing on clearing water sources, urgently preparing the land, and sowing seedlings for the spring rice crop. The rice varieties selected for the spring crop are grouped according to their growth duration: varieties with a growth period of 115-120 days, including Khang Dan 18, Ha Phat 3, TBR 97; varieties with a growth period of 125-130 days, including Nhi Uu 838, Ly 2099, Syn 98, Dai Duong 1; and varieties with a longer growth period of 132-135 days, such as San Uu 63, Japonica J02...

Water resources are a crucial factor, playing a decisive role in the success of each agricultural production season. In the southern communes of the province, Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited currently manages 215 irrigation works, including 105 reservoirs, 100 diversion dams, and 10 pumping stations.

To prepare for the 2026 spring crop production, the unit has focused its resources on repairing over 10,000 meters of irrigation canals, dredging more than 7,000 meters of canals, and repairing 560 meters of aqueducts, ensuring irrigation water supply for over 19,100 hectares of rice, vegetables, aquaculture, and long-term industrial crops. To date, the majority of the spring rice planting area under the unit's management has received sufficient irrigation water.

Speaking with us, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thai, Director of Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation One-Member Limited Company, said: The company has been operating smoothly, according to specific plans, ensuring a sufficient and timely supply of water for spring crop production.

Irrigation systems have been filled to sufficient capacity to support spring crop production.
Irrigation systems have been filled to sufficient capacity to support spring crop production.

For the spring crop of 2026, the entire province plans to plant 36,000 hectares of rice. The Department of Agriculture has implemented the spring crop production plan since December 2025, directing localities to focus on planting according to the seasonal timeframe around the beginning of spring, with a focus on late spring rice, accounting for approximately 97-98% of the total area.

According to the plan, late spring rice seedlings will be sown around the beginning of spring on February 4, 2026, and transplanted from February 10 to 25, aiming to complete sowing and transplanting within February. During the spring season, there are often periods of severe cold weather, affecting the growth and development of rice seedlings. The agricultural sector also advises people to closely monitor weather forecasts, avoid sowing and transplanting when temperatures drop low, proactively cover the entire seedling area, maintain sufficient water in the fields, and prepare reserve seeds to promptly restore production if damage occurs.

Thanks to the proactive efforts of the people, the close guidance of local authorities, and the active involvement of functional agencies, especially in ensuring irrigation water supply, the 2026 spring crop production in the province is being implemented on schedule, contributing to ensuring food security and increasing income for farmers...
