Eight new rice varieties are being tested.

Eight new rice varieties that were introduced for trial production in Hai Phong this spring are all promising varieties.

New, suitable rice varieties will contribute to increasing the yield and quality of the spring rice crop.

According to the Hai Phong Department of Agriculture and Environment, this spring the city is implementing the production and trial of 8 new rice varieties, including 6 purebred varieties and 2 hybrid varieties.

The pure rice varieties introduced for trial production are Smart 56, BC15 (blast resistant), TBR88, MHC2, N24, and QR15. Two hybrid rice varieties are WN305 and Thơm Sumo 86. Each variety is tested in a model plot of 1-3 hectares. After 5-6 trial production seasons, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will assess the stability and suitability of each variety and consider including it in the city's main rice variety structure.

This spring, Hai Phong city aims to plant 78,500 hectares of rice with 26 rice varieties, striving for a rice yield of 537,700 tons and an average yield of 68.5 quintals/hectare.
